Does anyone know if the K-member from a 79 Aspen will fit into the 1940 Plymouthe coupe? Looks like it might be to long.

The front frame of the 40 has a lot of depth, spring pockets and is generally not flat. How would you attach a K frame to it?

Fit is a vage term. The Aspen K member will fit in the 40 Plymouth IF you cut off your original frame at the firewall and build a 2" x 4" tube replacement frame to bolt the K member to. The torsion bars will be right up under the front nose/ bumper area, but should fit under the sheet metal. Of course, you will also need to fabricate a radiator and front sheet metal support and bumper mounting locations because those mounting locations will be gone with your original frame. A Dakota frame also fits under these cars, but with them, at least you don't have to build a frame to mount the suspension to. You still have to fab a radiator and front sheetmetal support and bumper mounts though.

So the answer to your original question about if it fits is sort of. Anything really does fit with a tourch and a welder, just some stuff requires more tourch and welder time. Gene

Just to mention this again, I have posted the frame measurements here
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=1#Post5304940

It does not have wheelbase, but it does have plenty of other info.

The pre 91 Dakotas have the 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern wheels, the 91-95 (or 96) have the 6 bolt wheels, but you can swap out the rotors to convert to the 5 bolt wheels, newer then 95 (or 96) also have the 6 bolt wheels, but changing over to the 5 bolt requires more things to be changed. Any of the Dakota frames will work, but if you use the entire Dakota frame, most have to be adjusted for length. You can mount a 360 & auto (or most big blocks, check the truck section of Moparts for more info) on any Dakota frame, and other then length, you can pretty much use the Dakota frame as removed from under the truck.

There are 3 different wheel base length of Dakots frames, standard cab, short box, standard cab 8' box and extended cab short box, not sure what length frame they put under the newer quad cab trucks. Clips and frames from Dakota's have been covered here before, look around. Gene

Fstfish, my 2000 Dakota has coil/a arm set up. I had to cut the nut off the bottom a arm for the shock mount because the bolt snapped off, what a pain, lol. Check your local u pull it's alot of the cash for clunker cars are showing up. I seen a couple older Dak's at Harry's in Hazelton this past saturday. later shawn
