Hello all and I appreciate any help I can get. Here is the deal I tried to get Galen to do this almost two years ago, and after several phone calls and e-mails later I never got a response. I decided I'd let you guys have a crack at it... I realize R-bodies are not falling from the sky, however is this car fairly rare? I know it has some really cool options... My dad bought this 1971 Dodge Challenger 383 4-speed car in 1985 from a local guy. At my father was driving a 1972 Challenger 340 which he sold to afford this car. The purchase price was $1,000.00 The story begins that a gentleman wanted a bright green Challenger and couldn't find one in the area. Supposedly the dealers found him one, but it was in Detroit, MI (8 hrs. away). It would be cooler if it turned out to come from Chicago, he, he, he... Anyways they guy bought it new and said it was a rep car or something. He then sold it to the second owner which is the guy my father bought it from. It was already a maroon when my father bought it but still had the original vinyl top (which was removed immediately). He also immediately repainted the car (a maroon/candy apple red color), pulled out the original 383 (which had the original exhaust, valve covers, intake, and carb removed) & installed a 340 and started driving it everywhere. The original engine is still under his friends work bench. My dad didn't want it anymore and was gonna toss it out when his buddy said, you never know, you may want it later on so I'll store it for you. I do not have any other information other than this. Here is the car shortly after purchase with fresh paint: It does have the correct markings on the build sheet for an export vehicle U/C/I = I. It also has "E" infront of the order number. It also looks to have the 'kilo' speedometer marked off and the 'export label' marked off at the bottom of the sheet in the 'X' options section. The numbers 2294 (looks to be anyways) are marked at the bottom of the sheet. Any idea if this means anything? I also read in a book somewhere that the front spoiler code (J-78?) also dubbed for some type of export code as well. There were no front spoilers on the car when my father purchased the car. I apologize for the picture size, but feel it is necessary in this instance. Here is the build sheet: He had this sheet kept in a book and it was getting moved around quite a bit when I was a kid. I took it to school one day and laminated it for him. I was Mopar wise even 20 years ago! I wish there was a way to find out the actual full story on the car and how it is still in the states and where it came from and such...

I cant read the last digit of the paint code, but I would assume it's FJ5 instead of FJ6 based on the Feb 15 build date. If indeed FJ6, It would be one of the first. It would be neat to ad this car into the various E body registries, but it can't be done with a hidden sequential number, so the info as it stands is basically useless to us Mopar "historians" who like to document rare and unusual cars. Yes, I would say that by looking very closely at the sheet you can see that it is FJ5. Is there a fender tag?
FJ5 wasn't available in '71 . BTW awesome car . I'd love to see it restored as original !! Love the wire wheel covers & WSW tires !

Installing the front spoilers was part of the Dealerships PDI responsibilites...They may have never been istalled. My car is also coded for front spoilers but there was absolutly no signs of holes ever being drilled in the original fenders, and MUSCLECAR2000 found an unused front spoiler jammed down between the 1/4 panel and trunk extention after 35 years...

Ooops, just ignore my post above. I have been looking at T/A AAR buildsheets all morning and was still stuck on 1970 mode. Sorry. I think the FJ6/FM3 announcement was dated Feb 15 (70) but I could be wrong. I will have to dig it out. Sorry for the confusion. The car is in fantastic shape and has been stored inside (all apart /stripped) since 1989. Sometime in 1986/87/88 the 340 ws pulled out and a built 1956 354 HEMI was installed. This started my father love affair with the early HEMIs which he now has a huge collection of including two supercharged 392s (one is all aluminum except block and heads) and a mint original 40,000 mile 1958 300 392 2 x 4 bbl. engine.
I too thought the JH 383 4-speed flat hood car with these options were odd. It's built like an R/T without the R/T premiums. I figured it was probably to beat import taxes to wherever it was going...maybe it was just to fool insurance companies I don't know.
The paint code is FJ6 and there is a fender tag.
I am trying to convice my father to restore it original, but he doesn't like the factory green color. I personally love the color.
I wish we could afford to have you (or anyone properly restore the car), however we are not wealthy and can't afford to do much with the prices of these cars out of the reach of the common working man. I was able to pick up an NOS kilometer per hour speedometer in the original box though. Thought that would be a cool addition for the car. It will sit in the box until the car is again completed. Not sure if it will ever actually be installed...
Is there any way to set this post so I can get instant e-mail notification of replies?
If it wasn't for an e-mail I got from a well respected member I would not have known anyone even replied.
Thanks for your help guys...

I will add it to all the Challenger / Mopar registries I can find. I just wanted to get everything decoded and verified and my facts stright before shooting my mouth off. This will also keep me hopefully only posting the accurate facts about the car as well.
Anyone have a list of the various popular registries and the websites?
We have various Mopars of the A, B, & E-body styles.

OK, I got crossed up. My father said it originally had the front spoilers and they were torn off by the previous owner. So that settles that bit of trivia.
This is exactly the information I needed Thanks guys for all your work!
Thanks Moparts!
