i replaced the one i had a few years back read 50-80lbs that sending unit went bad....to close to the headers and the center pin became loose and gave me erratic reading now.... the new ones i got read 20-40lbs for the same listing.... is there more than one sending unit for the motors?? 318-426? thanks pete

just got my 69 charger on the road, way low readings showed 10-20#, went thru dash, replaced voltage regulator, finally swapped out sending unit and went right to 40-60#. had wrong unit on, one meant for idiot light not gauge, that could be your problem too, similar symptoms. Greg

Mine runs close to 60 lbs when cold and 40 when warm. What unit do you have the Melling HV ?? Also depends on the type of oil you use. On my 70 440 I ran straight 50 and came out with 70 cold and 60 warm. While my 69 runs 20w50

That's what I was thinking. I would put a mechanical gauge in it and never worry about it, unless you're commited to use the factory gauges.

With the sending unit at the top rear center of the block I don't see how the headers are anywhere near the sender. Maybe the OP can explain it a bit better.

Guage takes a big bell shaped sender and lite is the little flat sender.
Running a late model - Late model what: All the later small blocks the unit is in the same liocation in the top rear of the block next to the distributor..

No its not. Better post a pic of what you are calling an oil sending unit.
