My car is all Mopar and I hate the thought of putting a 9" rear in it, but i'm about to back half the Barracuda and everyone is telling me to go with a 9" rear. Can I hear from some of the back halfed guys that run sub 10's please.

No way I would consider a 8 3/4 on a back half car. Hook hard one time, and it will spit the ring gear, pinion gear, and main caps out in one shot. Don't waste your time with one.

You might be right..lol My first all out pass in a mild 440 and 6psi of boost exploded the ring/pinion and caps into a thousand pieces. To the rears credit it was 30something uears old and had at least 200 runs on it.

With a 8 3/4 it's not a matter IF it will break, it's a matter of WHEN??? Why risk it. Install a 9" in it right from the start.

Yea, if I go with a 9" it will be a fabricated housing that my chassis guy builds. I'll be running some big tires and spraying some NOS too.

Do not waste your time with the 8 3/4. Get a 9" and be done with it. CHIP

8 3/4 rears are fine for stock eliminator and street guys but, really, most serious racers use some aftermarket version of the Ford 9"-and they do it for a reason.

Like I always say... weight is the killer... if you believe the car will be light then the 8 3/4 will work fine.... I've been running the 8 3/4 for YEARS... I did break the first one after 600+ passes... BUT my car is LIGHT... but I have had a best 60' of 1.19 with my lowly 8 3/4... now I run the alum center for it... much stronger... the one I broke was completely stock except for the 4.88 gear(the first 2 years it had the stock cone style posi). If you think the car will be heavy... go a different direction... JMO

The Dana 60 is out because of the weight and changing gears are a pain in the butt. I race 1/8 and 1/4 so changing the 3rd member is no big deal on the 8.75 or 9".

I don't find this a good argument against a D60. Most people don't have the extra coin to have 2 GOOD third members laying around. Seems like a good 9" center will be up around $1500?
Our Dewco was closer to 5000.
