Just read on NHRA.com that Allen Johnson will be driving an Avenger next year, not a Challenger. I have mixed feelings:

1) I'm disappointed because the Challenger is a MUCH better looking car, but.......

2) The Avenger will probably be more competitive because it is closer in size to the Cobalts and GXP's it will be racing, and the Challenger's grille isn't nearly as aerodynamic as those cars.

3) Nice to know Mopar is still behind the drag effort, but it looks like AJ may be the only Mopar out there next year.

Im pretty sure there will be more than just AJ next year running a mopar. They have too much of a good thing going to just run 1 mopar on the field.

Just my opinion...

Probably only 1 or 2 mopar "sponsored" cars, but there will be more than 1 mopar in the field.

Most of the current Mopar drivers have already announced brand changes for next year; Larry Morgan, Rickie Jones, and Johnny Gray. The other Mopar drivers, most notably Vieri Gaines, were almost nonexistent this year. Taking into account the fact that there will probably be only one Mopar-backed Nascar team (Penske)next year, I'm guessing AJ and maybe one associate car (Vinnie DeCeglie) will be the only Mopars next year. Not a lot for us to root for next year....

V. Gaines decided to go in house with his own engine program and stopped renting from Larry Morgan.. his performance has fallen off while doing his own development..

I love them too, but fact is they have the aero dynamics of a school bus. This has been proven even in factory trim. The 300C has about 10 mph on top end speed.
But on a side note, looks like the Mustang gets the nod in the Ford camps..They have about the same aero and drag in the front as the challenger.
IMO
I still wished they would go with the Challenger.

They still are pretty competitive even though there is only 3 or 4 of them in the field. AJ has 2 wins this year and is up there in points. What about them is so terrible that they should only have 1 car running?

The front end on the pro-stock Mustangs has been seriously reworked. It looks more like a pro-mod or funnycar nose. Could be done on the Challenger, but it would look fake. BTW, the Mustangs still aren't competitive.

If this is the legit artwork for next year, shouldn't there be a nitrous explosion coming from the hoodscoop?

No, then the car would be yellow a GM and say Jegs on the door like they have on video this weekend

Since the Challenger the mustang and the Camaro are all about equally Aerodynamically challenged, why not limit Pro stock to running them exclusively and give them another 20 or so cubes as Aero-compensation????

At least it would be more interesting than watching the "scubbing bubble" looking clone cars they've been running foer the past 10 years!!

Guess that might make too much sense, huh??

I can defineately see your point. The real screwy part of this is these Pro-stock cars don't even resemble their stock counterparts. So why not let all makes run a reduced size Challenger, Mustang, and Camaro. Might as well the Mustang like said earlier has a completely reworked nose.

What these cars have become has nothing to do with the original idea of Pro-Stock. They are nothing but funny cars with more gears & no nito or blower and an Engine that nobody has ever seen any production car. What should be done is the challenger,Mustang and camaro should run with a stock body,a chassis to handle the et, the block that came in the car and let them have at it. To me that would be Pro-Stock. Just my

They already have that class. It's called Super Stock.
