I was wondering what do people like in the way of header gaskets for a 440 engine. I just went through a set of felpro's and am just wondering if people have a brand they like and trickd to keep from vlowing them?

any brand of gasket that matches your ports, coated with silicon sealer & allowed to dry overnight will be a winner. the silicon makes them seal any old rusty header flange without blowing & be reusable multiple times.

We use Hooker with ultra copper, let it set up for
about 25 minutes. ARP header bolts. Never had a
leak and never had a bolt come loose.

I've been using the SCE copper gaskets.I've swapped them between 3 engines and they have sealed every time.

Nautilus Racing-
We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

Yes!

once you use them you wont go back to anything else... best gaskets I have ever used...

no more double gaskets, no voo doo to get them to seal, no re torquing, no problems!

we use the same gasket material in industrial piping that I work in and its a good design for exhaust...

I ran Percey's on my last two motors and really liked them, about $35 if I remember correctly, no leaking, no retorquing

I have never had any issues with Fel-Pros, even re-using them in a pinch.

White cheap MR Gaskets.
I find the more expensive they are , the worse they work.

Mr Gasket Ultra seals. They work and arent bad at like 16 bucks.Ive even reused them.Last set was on 6 years till I put the new heads on and I probally still could have reused them.I had the coppers on my 440 with TTIs and they leaked like there were no gaskets there.Rocky

I use the white paper gaskets. Been on the same set for a long time now with no issues.

A good seal is all about getting the header sealing surface straight and true. My hooker headers have a welded bead at each port and I took a marker and colored each bead and then took a wide fine tooth file and carefully worked each opening in a criss-cross pattern until the marker was gone and everything was nice and level.

I have used copper rtv in the past, but I don't have any in there right now. Keep an eye on the bolts after installing as they will loosen up a few times.

That's what I use too. Just be very careful putting them on. They break very easily.

Percy's carbon felt-aluminum impregnated gaskets. Sealed my leaking noise from the exhaust Dam.

I don't use the gaskets made for headers.

Like the previous poster, I make sure that the headers don't have a crappy bead of weld that's not flat.

Then I put on standard exhaust manifold gaskets, with a bit of anti-sieze.

I've even re-used 'em occasionally.

Seems to work for me; like I said above, it's probably just that I've never been told why it won't work, so it does.

BTW, I've had problems with header gaskets blowing out, even with filing the flanges.

You want a gasket that can slide... with the heat those
pipes grow a fair amount then it cools down... I make
my own gasket most of the time... I use a product called
Grafoil... stainless steel with graphite layers on
both sides
