SB or BB?On BBs for sure you need a 143 flywheel or the kit to move the starter in toward the crank.I have the mini on my 440 with shield and 143 and its flawless.RockyRocky

What you need is the starter nose cup that bolts inside the bellhousing. I have one if need it, check out Summitt's site or Jegs first then let me know, good luck.

If you look at your starter you'll see that the front of it has as part of the casting, a stub that hold the gear shaft end. his stub goes into the cup and keeps the starter from moving around with just the 2 bolts in it. The stock bellhousings have this cast into it.
