How about an update?

The only thing i can say is that i bought some of the R/T tail lights for the car. I like the look of them better. I also picked up some shifting rods, the correct shifter mech, and the mounting plate. I'm at WVU an thats to far from home for me to keep on the project. I will be getting on some more body work when i get home for thanksgiving and continuing in december. Mark my words now:

This car WILL be painted by the end of the holiday break (jan 12 i believe)

Steve

Looking forward to those updates at Holiday time.

Alright guys nothing too spectacular but its something. Starting in on the parts resto over my thanksgiving break. The body will be over christmas break.

My task currently is to make a Radio delete gauge cover. The reason why is because i cant afford to get a good working stock radio and i personal am not a fan of sticking a modern head unit in the middle of a vintage dash.

Here is the cars gauge cluster...

Cluster cover removed and the donor piece...

I am cutting the pieces from the sides of the donor because these are flat...

Here is all three pieces that i need to fill in the radio area...

I have to wait for some plastic to be melted overnight in order to finish the bezel. So in the mean time i started on the tailights. I striped them and shot them with some etching primer. They will need some work due to some dings and dents in them...

Thats all for now will most likely have some more updates later tonight...

Steve

sunroofgtx Rick the bezels is really only in the beginning stages but the pieces are in. What i used was broken grill pieces from a cuda grill some acetone and a glass jar. The acetone melts the plastic over time and then i applied it on he sides of the pieces put them together and through some on to since it was not perfectly flat...Here is some pics...

As far as the 71 383 i dont think its going in. I think i am going to put in a 440 that we built 5 years ago and its just been sitting. It was built and then put on the dyno and wrapped in plastic.

Well the road to paint is underway. Moved the car to Brooks Auto Restoration(he lets me work out of his shop and guides me to do the correct things). Today Sanded it with 220 and found some imperfections on the car. Really not all that bad. Addressed some of the welded areas by filling them over too...Stay tuned paint if near!

68Killerbee Yea i love the idea of the new forum but i dont think too many people have noticed it! The challenger is being neglected and sits in the garage and is used as a shelf to store things on. It did get a complete new drivetrain(not my drivetrain the old mans on borrow). I am home till Jan 11th

Today i glazed over a lot of the engine bay. there was lots of pits in the metal and it just would have looked bad if paint the way it was. Filled in all the pics and fixed the firewall cowl seem. It was pretty rough so i ground the welds a little more and filled it over so its smooth as glass...

Also started filling in all the spots that the guide coat revealed. But the biggest task is the passenger lower quarter body line. The body line was off some since i made the quarter. Used some filler to try to reshape it and its coming along nicely!

The Goal: Have the car completely done for our 2008 Senior Prom

Gonna make the 2009 prom??
Just yankin' I got no room to talk. Mine looks pretty much the way it did over 3 years ago when I brought it home, minus the vinyl top. It runs (sort of) and it has new brakes;period!
Keep up the good work. Its looking GREAT

Well today sprayed on three more coats of primer. All went well except of on round three of the roof the paint started to settle and gunked up me throwing some spatter. Had to stop clean out the gun and go at it again...Here is some action shots...

You can see how thick the air is in this picture...

I was very pleased with the results after the second time priming. Lines are a lot crisper and the body looks like new

The engine compartment looks nice now as well. No pits, and no welds everywhere

Sprayed guide coat on the body, left the roof alone since it needs to be hit with a da and primed again because of the spatter on it...

Also got the front valance ready for its second prime...

Damn dude -- you're doing amazing work!!

I'm hoping to do what you're doing to my 71 Demon here shortly. Never have attempted body work or painting, but there's nothing like doing it yourself.

Keep up the good work man!

Looking at it now it's hard to remember or imagine what it looked like whrn you started. It's come a long, long way.

Have you decide what route your gonna take W/ the bumpers and tailights yet. In my imagination I see that car in black, with black bumpers and taillights, and a black stripe kit.

Is that the way your leaning or do you have something else planned.
