Hey, you managed to waste my whole saturday afternoon, reading this thread from the beginning

But you guys were tremendous inspiration for me - my '68 Coronet is sitting in the barn since fall and I am finally preparing to start the project.

Thanks for showing me how things can be done for cheap - I'll probably have a bigger budget, but I must have the bodywork done (though my car is not too rusty, so hopefully that won't be too expensive) and I must pay lots of money for shipping parts from US...

I hope that in few weeks I'll start my own, similar thread

That is really awesome work! I'm in the process of getting my Sport Satellite on the road and I am fortunate to not have to deal with rust issues. I wish I had your metal work skills, as that would open up more opportunities for bigger projects for myself. That will be one sweet ride when you complete it.

Thanks guys! Glad to be your inspiration! We've gotten ours from just looking at many of the threads on this board as well!

DynoDave To be honest i think it was from the car sitting in the elements with no windows in it(the only ones in it were down ) But on top of that there was also a very very bad shaped dutchman panel that helped leak water in...

I have to show this thread to a friend of mine from same town - he's even younger than I am (I'm 23, he's 20) and he's buying a '71 Charger from another friend - not rusty, but heavily damaged in accident (front frame rails bent like a banana, rear fender hit a tree - the car went spinning and hit three trees...). I think it will be one hell of a project...

BobAsh Sounds interesting. I guess cars are harder to find there so as long as its not rusty hammer and dolly the crap out of her!

NASBackyard Thanks Tim! I guess they dont or else they dont want to hurt our feelings. Atleast there was no frame replacement! But we might get yelled at when we put the cowl numbers on because they are completely rusted around and cannot be saved without splicing them in

Starting digging in on the pain in the but area that needs replaced. No room to work and it could not be avioded. Here is where i cut from the bottom of the wheel well...

Here she is cut out...

The donor wheel well...

Mocking up the new piece...

Trimmed up and primered...

Im off wednesday so ill try and get her welded up then...

That's what my buddy plans on doing.

The car was very nice before the accident, only needed a paint job to be completely finished. Custom leather interior, 500hp 440, discs all around, lots of new parts on suspension... Now it's just a shell with interior, we'll be using mechanicals from '68 Charger 318 which replaced it and to which original stuff was transplanted, and probably some minor stuff from my Coronet - I want to build decent handling car, so many suspension parts will be replaced...

Best wishes with the car. Even when I was your age, it would probably take me 10 years to get it done. That's if I could even do it. Definately not for everyone.

mopar346 Thanks but were not trying to make anyone look bad! Just trying to have some fun and build a car

Dartman318 Alright ill have to dig through my boxes and see what trinkets i need still...

Did a little more work today. Welded on the bracket and tub piece...

Cut out the tub for the hinge replacement. This is scary because of how crucial it is to get right...

Here is the donor piece all masked ready to be cut..

Greg got the junk dutch man off the speak tray then cleaned it up and primered it...

Got some good old rust on the speaker tray too

Also finished grinding and then painted up the tail panel brackets...

Hi guys I'm the third member working on this car. I am learning quite a bit and it seems that it might just be possible to get done. Thanks for all of your support.

MarkMullins Thanks but are "metalworking" skills that everyone speaks of we have acquired from this car, no prior experience. Its as easy as grabbing the tools and welder. Hopefully some will see that and try their skills on their own car. Everything we can do was gained from this car.

rtmike Thanks means a lot to us and it drives us to keep going. Although no one has can top the mc'lovin comment above

So here it is, the most terrifying part of the whole deal. The hinge replacement, i think i have about 20 different reference points scribbled on the quarter panel. Here is the new piece all trimmed up...

Here she is tacked into place...

Once it was tacked remeasured all the points and they are perfect. Next we put the hinges on and then the decklid just to make sure it was good, and it was!

If you cant tell we were pretty pumped about that fitting While ryan was cleaning and priming some brackets greg also started in on striping the nice rust free tailpanel

BatmanFeller Thanks! I think the pride will be enough but girls are a bonus as well, i dont think our girlfriends will like that factor

So i finally got the things tail panel whipped back into shape. There was some rust holes as seen, i just welded them shut...

Then i welded the valance brackets onto it again after repairing them(see above)...

Then i layed a total for four tacks on until i can get the tail panel perfect not only aligned but with those bulky brackets that go in the trunk...
