Hey guys, just got back from a ski trip in vermont so havent been able to work on the bee obviously. But here is some stuff that got done the last two days...

The top of the drivers quarter was pretty well rotted as seen below...

So i cut a section out of the sunroof charger donor to patch it, its not the exact piece since its was junk too but it can work with some modification...

Then here she is welded in place...

Then back to the tail panel rot issue This car is so rusted

Here is the tail panel extension that we have to use drilled off...

Here is a patch for the top of it from the first donor car...

Then i drilled this piece apart to fix the right way...

I'll finish that piece up next and hopefully lay the whole back end in together before we start welding...

How many spot weld bits you gone through to date and how much are they are why aren't they in your budget numbers?

because most people dont figure in cost of materials till the end! those blair bits are reiliant if you keep the rpm low they last and last I dont have that kind of patiance so i tend to go thru them!

I wonder if he's using reg drill bits? If so that would be cheap on the budget.

Those numbers are not going to factored until the end. I will add a material cost for bits(5 packs as of now) and 6 cans on primer right now. I want to wait until all the hole drilling is dont and all the primer usage is done. Pretty much once the sheetmetal work is complete.

This is one of my favorite posts ever! You guys are doing a great job on that car, and 71 Superbees are awesome cars to boot. Keep up the good work. It goes to show you that you do not need $250,000 to build a cool car!

Its not primer its perma gray.

hi
nice work, guys. I guess I'd be considered young too, and it gives me hope that I can get the Demon looking sharp in $5,000 or so

you can use some cutting oil to help the life of the bits dramatically...

rapid tap is the best IMO

Thanks guys for the compliments. I do use the lube made by blair with the tools to help but i consider 5 packs at most likely 1800 spot welds cut not to be too terrible.

Keep drillin
imagine if you had the drill welds in the Bee too instead of just peeling them apart you'd be up around 3600 drilled
I saw that car and I knew it was rough but not that rough... You guys are learning alot with that one...

Funny you say that, the whole floor, trunk floor and back end was pretty much chisseled off lol. Wait until you see the post later tonight of what i just had to salvage to make the car work, i feel like this was a hand built car having to fab up all these pieces lol. Stay tuned

Did some more work today, mostly fabrication and fixing of some of the more seriously rusted out areas.

Here is the two extension pieces that go from the trunk extensions to the frame crossmember. As you can see the one is okay but the other is junk, sadly this is the best one from all three cars, so it had to be used.

I cut the upper lip and then the piece in half for the most part...

Here is what will be the new side...

Cut out the relief cut and the angled area at top...

Here are the two tabs i made...

Welded up the made up piece...

The one new tab welded on...

The finished product...

Also did the tail panel extension, top piece welded on...

Bottom piece fabricated and then welded on...

Alright guys, no work today and a free day to work on the car! Got quite a bit done, i should have the back end completely tied together by the end of the day monday if all goes well. Had a lot of small prep work to do to get it this far like welding certain parts together so they would fit back in the car. I have to remove all the metal that was in the back end so i could punch holes to weld to other parts, borrowed the local farmers air punch and drilled them out to 3/8"...

I found a piece that will work for the curved part of the upper quarter, welded it on...

Mocked up everything in the rear end...

Put a few tack welds down so i could put the extensions on so i know they fit...

Did some more tacks, and placed the tail panel in...

She still needs some final adjustments and a mock up with those stupid big old brackets from the truck floor to the tail panel but other than that the fit looks pretty good...

I have been silently following this thread.

I was brought home from the hospital in this 74' Charger.

Dartman318 Actually there is all kinds of little nick nacks we need. Things like Door handles, strikers, door locking bars, hood latch and others. I'll have to compile a list and let you know...

Been welding a lot lately and just placing and double checking everything mostly. But greg took off the rear valance brackets from the tail panel and i welded in some patches seen below...

Then also drilled off the passenger spring hanger for the deck lid, it was toast as pictured before. And even better looking underneath it

Good to see the rear sheet metal all coming back together. So do you think the deck lid spring hanger/inner wheel well rust happened because of a rear window leak into the trunk?
