I just rebuilt my 2 bb carb carter and was wondering how to set the metering rods.The reason for moveing the adjuster on the rods was the accerter pump lever broke and had to replace it. I forgot to mark the lever to put it back in it's place and not sure if it's all the way down or all the way up or in the middle ?? Thanks for any help in explaning how they work and what they do. I know they go into the jets to requlate the fuel but not sure where there set at idel and wide open.

The fatest part of the rod drops down in the jet at idle; the thinnest at wide-open throttle. Vacuum pulls the rod(s) down against a spring at idle and at wide open throttle vacuum drops to near zero and the spring pushes the rod up out of the jet.

Look for any wear marks on the rod holder to determine where the rod was inserted.

What year BBD? If there is a "tin top?" They adjustable.

Got to www.slantsix.org there is a sticky in the engine section. Click on that and there is a video on how to adjust them! Way cool!

Thanks guys the carb is for a 74 dart think it's a 8086 it's in my 89 fifth ave. it's has been running great for the last 3 years then the throdle stuck on the was to work and thats when the pump lever broke . I rebuilt the carb at the same time since I had to pull it apart anyway and thats when i didn't payattention to where the rods where LOL didn't think they where spring loaded.

No adjustment on the rods on that carb. Make sure you have the spring under the step up piston.
