Hey guys, just curious what is involved in converting my electronic ignition to a points ignition.

I have a new points distributor but I have no idea what wires if any I need to use from the 5 pin connector that goes to the ecu.

Thanks in advance.

I do this alot myself

my 85 truck...has the ecu and elect dizzy

I get a points dizzy from auto zone

install a pertronix points conversion in the oints dizzy

drop it in the engine, leave all the wire harness and ecu in place

drop the neg wire on coil for elect dizzy

use the keyed hot wire from haness with red wire from conversion on + side of coil

add black wire from conversion to neg side of coil

done, been doin it that way for yrs and no probs

if you just use points...

drop in the dizzy, drop elect dizzy wire from neg side of coil and hook up black wire from points to neg side of coil...done

I did change points every 3-6 mounths though

cant really tell it swaped over unless you know what wires to look for

If you are using a Mopar ECU all you need to do is yank the connector out of the ECU, and hook the (only) wire from the dist to the neg. side of the coil.

I have never unplugged the ecu when just hooking the ground wire from the points to the neg side of coil

but either way works I guess

Just more for safety I guess. If the ECU quit--the reason for the conversion, there's some chance of a short there

say that in the dark..on side of the road...in the boonedocks...while waiting for the wify to get it out of the shed and bring it way out there to you... after walking her out there over the phone and finding it on the shelf...cause she duzz the house not the car work and parts changing

then change it in the dark on the now cooled down engine

and I use the pertronix conversion most the time anyways..that swaps it back to electronic and more fire at the plug with the 40,000 volt flame thrower coil that goes with it than any stock smog crap leanburn ecu crap..IMO

the points dizzy even has a slightly better advance curve built in to it than the stock dizzy, so it more tunable with a non emmision carb and headers

runwhatyabrung..I do!

You don't need any of the wires from the 5-pin connector. The wiring from tha ballast resistor to the coil stays the same and the wire from the points distributor connects to the negative side of the coil in place of the wire from the ecu. You don't even need to disconnect the ecu.
