I have an extra 8 3/4 out of a challenger and I'm wondering what it's worth. It's a 3.23 non sure-grip.

One thousand or so give or take? Just a guess. Guys get that out of complete A body 8.75 rear ends, which is primarily because they are also sorta hard to find as well.

E bodies are prettty common. I’ve got tons of them. I’ve got more 68-70 b bodies though. A bodies do bring good money because they are very hard to find. I doubt I could get much more than 400 to 500 for a complete ebody rear.

489 case, or ? Could affect value somewhat as well.

I'd have to double check, I'm almost positive it's a 489 case

I tried to sell a complete E-body 8.75 a few years back and got ZERO interest.
I think shipping scares people away
Ended up selling the center section locally.
Housing and axles are in the shed, and will probably be thrown away eventually.

It's an open carrier...

E's don't bring A money in this rare case.

I sold an E body complete rear drum to drum with a 742 case 3.23 open rear last year for $550. NOBODY wanted it because of the open rear.

I had it at Carlisle and everyone who looked at it wanted a sure grip.

Contrary to the opinions of some, I am not dumber than I look.

Hmm. I figured these would be worth far more than what I proposed. Would all V8 powered E bodies have came with an 8.75, or just 340 and bigger engines? I guess if most E-bodies came with an 8.75 to begin with then maybe that would explain the interest being lower.

I know guys get big money out of the center sections now compared to just a few years back. 742 style Sure grip units with desirable gear ratios are all the $$$.

Most V-8 had them. Disk brake option, A/C option, etc would likely trigger an 8 3/4 even on 318-2 bbl.

68-70 8 3/4 have more desirability.

One trick is to install a 68-70 b-body 8 3/4 in a mtn e-body to get more tire clearance.

Many 73-74 b-bodies got 9 1/4 rears. So 71-74 8 3/4’s have niche too. Not sure how that ranks with the others one selling price.

True nearly all E-bodies came with the 8-3/4 so they are hardly rare.

Unless you had a low end engine, (like a /6) with 7-1/4, or a big end, (like a Hemi) with a Dana, you got an 8-3/4.

Even when Chrysler moved away from the 8-3/4 in 74 my E-bodies still had the 8-3/4.

I know of a housing for $100 with axles locally. I had one given to me when I bought a hood cause the guy couldn't sell it.

I would start high and lower the price.

How High? I am not sure but I would price the third member and add one or two hundred for the axles & housings, Maybe a little more if the brakes are good.
