Hey everyone,

looking for thoughts on types and colors of paint for the inside of your enclosed race trailers. just picked mine up today way too cold to do any painting or electrical to it for a few weeks or months up here in Michigan.

so, wondering what you guys have used for paint on the walls and floor that will stand the test of time. mostly the floor with running drag radial and or a slick at track. what sticks and stays down with minimal maintenance on floors.

let me know what you have done

please and thank you.

Thank you
Kiddart

When is purchased my 28' enclosed someone had painted the whole inside dark machine grey. It was like a dungeon inside, even in the middle of the day with the doors open, unless I turned on the lights. I just used the cheapest semi gloss on sale exterior white house paint I could find and painted it all white, but the floor. I left the floor the grey. Made a huge difference. Don't even need lights during the day. That was like 6-7 years ago and still looks great.

I always paint the all the wood inside with Kilz then go back over it with white latex, never had a problem doing it that way... twocents

I used Behr semi gloss white that was a primer and finish paint all in one. It wipes down easy and still looks like it did when put on(5yrs ago).

Ok

I would choose the walls as the lightest grey I could get, Ceiling white, and floor a light grey, all satin (tiny sheen to make any cleaning easier)
Sidewalls white will start to show a lot of fingerprints IMO at some point.
Floor would be oil-based 2 part epoxy on my trailer, the walls/sides not as critical.

Put down a couple of pieces of diamond plate where the tires set. At least the rears. They will pull up anything they set on.

Could also bolt down some 4'? pieces of E track that would lift tires mostly off the floor and add some easy additional tie downs, if you could get to them ,with slicks you would need a double row?

So far these are all some really good ideas.

When you guys did your floors did everyone use oil base on floors and did you mix in sand to add a texture, or a little grip.

Thank you

WHITE Semi-gloss or even White matt finish I would suggest. Any color gloss will be annoying day or night with too much reflective glare. Doing the walls and ceiling in White semi-gloss or White matt and the floor in a light or medium grey or even matt black makes a good work area inside a trailer.

I've worked out of trailers that were white or natural aluminum.
It was surprising how much darker the aluminum interior was.
Generally we didn't have leakers, but the ramp door was usually a bit more slippery than the trailer floor.
Textured surfaces tend to hold more dirt & etc, but a bit of sand in the floor paint helps with footing.
Tread plate works well for tires and - obviously enough - shoes...

Gloss white barn enamel, at least for the walls and ceiling.

Yes, it takes hours to dry.

It is very easy to wipe down, very durable and keeps things bright.

Valspar makes (made?) a durable marine paint that is non-slip. Not sure how it might hold up to automotive fluids (leaks). But as other's have mentioned, add some sand to your paint to make a homemade non-slip pint.

My experience with sand/grit additives added to floor paints, paint does not do a great job of containing the sand long term, and therefore it is forever wearing off and you always have a bit of loose sand residue on everything, blowing around in a gust of wind, getting in your eye, always on the floor, getting transferred too anything that touches the floor, etc.
Nice idea , but has its downsides IMO.

Then you did it wrong. Never seen that issue but I only used it in enamel.

What coating containing sand/grit when used, never wears and exposes the additive?

Primed with Kilz, them battleship gray gloss on the floor and gloss white on the walls (oil base) and trusscore for the ceiling. I went with gloss for easy cleanup.

Most likely to get the driver's door up high enough to clear the trailer fenderwell for side door access? Just a WAG.

To raise the car up so opening the door clears the escape door.
