I'm looking to swap out my crossmember (68 charger) from the tall block style mount to the through bolt spool type mount (better design right?). What years/models should I be looking for to swap out? Thanks

There are no stock crossmembers that will work. It will have to be a custom piece.

I used the newer type transmission mount on my '65 Belvedere. I went to the junk yard and got the cross member from a car that used that style mount. I think I got one from a Cordoba , a Diplomat or 5th Avenue would work too. Then I cut out the center part of the cross member. Then I took the mount with the bolt through it and bolted it to the transmission with the new center part bolted to it. Then I took the '65 cross member (which was in two pieces now after removing the center section)and bolted it to the frame. Then while the transmission was supported by a jack , I located the transmission where I wanted it. Then I tack welded the new center section to the original cross member. I then removed the cross member and finished welding it. Then I painted it black and put in back in and bolted it up. When finished it looks like an original '65 cross member but it has the spool type mount. Has worked great for 10 years now.

Ahh nuts!!! I thought for sure at least a 69 charger would fit. I thought I'd seen some 69's with the spool type and others with the block style.

Did 70 B's have a spool mount?

So a 71 B/E body trans crossmember won't fit a 66-69 B-body.

Off topic but FWIW, A 73-76 A-body spool mounts will fit a 67-72 A-body.

I have a poly mount in my 69 RR. I've been happy with it so far. No cutting and more secure than the rubber mount.

I want my fair share
