Gents,

My '04 Hemi Ram died twice yesterday driving through parking lots at about 5 mph. What could cause it to stall out at a low speed like that? In the past year it has had all the O2 sensor's replaced, egr valve, coil packs replaced, spark plugs replaced and fuel pump replaced. It has around 250K miles on it. Showing No Codes.

Thanks in advance !!

Does it have an IAC like Fords do? I’ve replaced that part on probably 8 fords in the family. One was even at the dealer and they couldn’t figure out the dirt common problem because they don’t throw a code when the part fails. They just die. I don’t know of mopar uses one or not.

I want my fair share

Thanks, great suggestion! From what I could find online, it doesn't look like Dodge uses one. I've sprayed some throttle body cleaner in the throttle body back when I replaced the ignition parts, but I guess after 250K miles, maybe it needs replacing. Not sure how long they last.

Did you check the battery? Had that happen to me years ago. BTW, I have a good used 06 5.7 ram throttle if you want to try it.

When my '05 would act up, I would have to remove the throttle body and clean the carbon from the back side. There was an idle air passage that was the culprit.

That truck did have a BBK throttle body though.

Try to make this short. Two years ago my wife's 2001 T&C ltd was attacked by a rodent (groundhog we think) and it chewed through both upstream and downstream O2 sensors and when I went to start it the wires shorted and took out the PCM/ECM/ECU. I replaced it with a remanufactured PCM from a reputable reman place Cardone and everything was fine for about a month. My son used it to go to work as he had some work needed on his car. I get a call from him and he's in a parking lot a little down the street from his work with a dead T&C. He tells me that it died several times in the short drive to where he was so I brought the code reader. No codes so I get it running give him the car I drove out for him to follow me home and sure enough it starts to hesitate and almost shuts off and does shut off for several seconds and does this about a dozen scary times on the highway at 70 mph but low rpms. The original PCM wouldn't recognize a signal from the upstream O2 sensor but worked without the shutting off but threw a code for it. I had to replace the original because of the code but only to get it E-Checked. The original is back on, with the code but it doesn't shut off like in front of a 70 mph line of traffic. I would suspect the PCM. You can plug in a code reader or do the key on three times to see if you have any codes. Advance, Autozone, maybe others will let you return a PCM (without questions) so it might be an idea to order one if you can't find the fault in another place. I did it without giving up the original for a core credit. If a new one doesn't fix the problem return it and put the original back in and keep searching. The T&C (reman) PCM was the problem but didn't throw any codes??? Must have had a bad solder point they missed during reman that happens over time on the originals.

How about starting with puling the codes, if any.

Crank sensor bad. Replace cam sensor while you're at it.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.7 that would die at low speeds when it was new. It went back to the dealer a few times for code updates and finally they cured it. They just kept reflashing the computer with new releases. This was in 2005 or 2006. I would assume that your truck has been reflashed at some point in the last 20 years but maybe not. Depends on if you ever take it to a dealer for maintenance or if you always do it yourself.

Those cold solder joints are “The Devil’s Plaything”
and are mostly due to government mandated lead free solder.

The first generation Neons were famous (infamous?) for cold solder joints on the instrument cluster. I had a '97 and a '98 and they both had the problem.

Thanks! I appreciate the offer! If I narrow it down to that, I'll let you know. I think the battery is fairly new, but I need to double check!

Thanks, I've owned this truck since new and don't think I've ever replaced those.

Don't know if you mentioned that when it stalls does that mean you have to restart the truck or it hesitates and keeps running?
