Mid 10K to a hair over 11K is fairly common. An acquanintance does a few of the GM engines that run currently, he's tested up to about 11400 rpm from memory. Haven't spoken to him in a little while though. The Mopar's don't turn quite as hard, but tended to make the most power of the three. Finding a good block for them is the bigest problem.

Jerry Hurley/Sonny Ray and Dempsey Hardy all ran that car in NHRA Comp Elim., that's likely why the current owner got a 314 motor with it, and it never made anywhere near 900+ hp, that much hp at 2100 lbs. is a 7 second ride.

I don't think Ritter makes a block for the P5 heads. I wonder why? Are the lifters locations too different?

I understand he does make a block for the P7 heads.

If you sourced a block with a blank lifter valley, you could machine it for a P5 set up. That said, it is far too high in its deck height. Most are running their deck height in the 8.3-8.4" range. If a Mopar block could support even lower, you'd see deck heights at around 8.2" or lower.

Alan,
I did not think the deck height on the R4 blocks was that low, can they be milled that much?

They start out at 8.575"
From memory around 8.35" was fairly common

I have a bunch of original dyno sheets from a 288 cid small block motor that didn't quite last to 9,000 rpm.

"exhaust lash caps found missing"

It was an idea. But I don’t know if it got raced.

My Chrysler internal correspondence between Tom Hoover, Bob Torozzi, and others seemed to say it was an idea that didn’t work.

Browsing through many runs by Bob Tarozzi’s Phoenix Engineering, looks like all around 520-540 or so peak HP. BTW, SVI= Ted Sphear. DRE = Bud Elkins ported/prepped

This run had rpm “issues” it seems by the comments

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.
