I decided to drive up to Great Lakes Dragaway this morning and make a few passes. The car is 4,100lbs and 4,270 with me in it.

Ran it as it always is, through full exhaust and on the road race tires. (just saying I didn't drop the exhaust or have it on drag wheels)

First run I slipped the clutch out at 4,200 rpm and it actually hooked but absolutely obliterated the clutch. It was slipping down the entire track and flaring on the shifts.

I let it have a good cool down and tried dumping the clutch at 3200 but it just spun. I still pedaled it and ran it out.

Shifted it normally (with clutch and lifting throttle) at 7,650rpm. Trans is a TKO600, 4.56 rear gear.

The clutch is a McLeod rst, so dual disc organic. Seems like I would need a rxt (miba lining discs) and/or more pressure plate to really launch it well.

It ran perfect at least. It has a tanks inc tank but I added some baffling to the bucket. Rock solid fuel pressure through the entire pass.

That thing is making some steam! Killer day to be at the track as well. Do you think it picked up any mph from your incredible airbox mod?

Sounds like a great time, I bet the car is alot of fun to drive.

Definitely one of my favorites on the board. I have not always been logged in while reading and didn't comment, but have sincerely enjoyed your posts about everything you've done with it.

Thanks guys. It's no race car but thought I would share the results.

Not sure what the air cleaner was worth but it brought the intake air temps from 50-60 above ambient to 15-20 over ambient. I think it could do better with a hood scoop and not a drop base assembly but that's not the look I'm going for on this one.

CSK yes it is the newer version with the transfer tubes. Not trying to say it's great or anything because I think it certainly isn't out of the box, just that it's working ok with additional baffling.

Beautiful and very nice running car. Your numbers are especially good considering the car's weight and the tires you were running on! I wanted to confirm you were actually shifting at 7,650 rpm? I have the same transmission and rear end ratio so am curious how the shifting went, especially if the RPM you mentioned is correct.

Thank you. I looked at the log and it was actually 7,750. It shifted great, I had no trouble with that. I did have the trans apart to change the overdrive ratio to .82 and it just had regular brass synchros.

Excellent update, thanks for sharing! Now let's all pick out a hoodscoop for that thing!?

That is a super cool beautiful car. Was the high RPM an accident or is the engine built to run up there?

HardcoreB- slippery slope! Then we have to pick out a tunnel ram.

Prosport- I know it seems kind of weird being a heavy street car but I wanted to build a higher rpm engine and run short gearing. I think it's a lot of fun. That's why I kept the 3.75 crank.

I had an idea of how I wanted to get there but I was using performance trends engine analyzer as well.

It was calculating peak hp at 7000-7500 and I thought maybe it wouldn't quite get there with an air cleaner and full exhaust but it did, making peak power at 7200-7500.

So it could probably use a higher shift point than 7750 but I don't think I want to push my luck with steel valves . (though I did pay a lot of attention to weight on the valve side in terms of valve weight, small diameter valve springs and Ti locks/retainers)

BigFish69- Thanks!

None of the pics show up for me, so I have no clue what the car looks like (other than your avatar) or what it ran...but from what I've read, it's cool!

Awesome Charger and very unassuming! And making some serious steam there. Good day a Da Grove. Looks like you could've made 42 passes if you wanted.
