Weren't most of the 76 up cars, designed so that all the dash components came out "the front' ??? . . . should be able to take the trim piece off that is around the clock, then have access to the two screws (??) that hold it onto the dash and pull it out, disconnect the electrical connector and away you go . . .
Mark that's the way it works. depending on the vehicle, the face piece needing removed could range from the whole dash face to just a small panel. not really that hard to do.
