https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbt...deck%20hemi.jpgBack around 1974 I was at Barnett Race Cars in Atlanta with a buddy. One of the Barnett's (don't remember now which one) was welding chrome moly tubes into a 400 block and turning it into a Hemi block just like the picture above. the pistons were considerably shorter and he used a shorter stroke with the long rods to get a 396 cu inch Hemi for the lighter car and lighter rotating assembly. Mike had Tom Hanners old parts. 400 block. The deck on the block in the old pics was decked quite a bit. Look at where the water pump bolt holes are in relation to the deck. I have a 9.700 deck KB block that came from the B1 TS pro stock era. Building a 484 B1 twin turbo motor out of it.

So what's the fesability of building one of these?
Seems like the downfall is a heavy dome piston, custom rods and figuring out an intake. Would be easier due to that Stage V wedge pattern head still being available. The Super Stock Hemi pistons being run today are in the lower 500 gram range, so piston weight wouldn't be an big issue. BBC rods are plentiful, and a std. deck intake can be modified (like seen in the earlier pics).

Stage V must have made a run of the wedge pattern blocks? I wonder if the lack of new hemi blocks has anything to do with it , assuming they did ? The picture of the block Joel posted also shows half round stock welded in where the Exh push rod intrude into the edge of the deck. I wonder what they did to the main caps ?
running up my post count some more .

Probably to get rid of the lip...enhancing oil drainback. Also slightly helping w/ windage too I'd guess.

I know of one brazed block floating around that has had .300 taken off the deck. Mike Radnis used to run that set up in one of his old cars. Not sure if he is a member. Mike had a 400 block. His brother Tim and he also had some of Hanner's engine parts. Unfortunately Mike passed from Cancer in 2021.

Was the last Mopar Wing Car in 1971 at Daytona a destroked 305 Hemi or a SBM? Since Min weight back then was 3600? lbs, weight was not much of an issue.
Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I'm pretty sure the Dick Brooks Daytona ran a Keith Black prepped 305 (destroked 340) engine. The smallest Hemi I remember was the 366 Hemi with the 3.21" stroke crank and stupid long rods (7.3"). They were more successful in the Mopar Missile with the D5 heads as I recall.
