I have an enclosed trailer and a small class C motorhome so most of my stuff is already packed. I typically don't travel super far from home and most of my races are single day anymore, or I'd probably pack some more extra spare parts. I've also try and make my racing budget friendly so my cars are nothing special running mid 10's and slower in the 1/4 with basic combos that require little maintenance.

Air Tank
Enough race fuel for the weekend
fuel funnel
Toolbox with typical tools (wrench's, pliers, screw drives, sockets, ratchet, electrical tape, spark plug gapper)
Timing light
Atleast 1 qt of motor oil and trans fluid
Brake Cleaner
Bottle jack
Floor Jack
2 jack stands
Spare parts (rocker arms, pushrods, set of spark plugs, carb gaskets, jets, extra carb return spring, throttle cable, tire tube)
Spare trailer tire
Battery charger
Extension cord
Helmet, racing jacket and pants
tire gauge
Enough food + drink for the race day

This past weekend I could've used a spare electric water pump. That will be added to my list. Fortunately for me another Mopar racer had a spare and allowed me to buy it from him so I could continue on racing.
Another good item if you have access to electric is a fan that you can use to help cool the car down or yourself.
A pump sprayer is good to have when it's very hot to help cool the car a little faster.

But staying home doesn't save you any money if you have none to begin with. work

I am working making focused task tool boxes. Need to check lash in a hurry? Grab the valve lash toolbox. Everything I need to check lash is in that box. Another for timing, carb adjustment, hooking up the trailer. You get the gist. Thanks to Luke Bogaki, for the idea. Oh, right now my stuff is in Bark Box, cardboard boxes, so you can do it on a budget.

smaller individual boxes are easier to pack and normally lighter to lift . Most of mine is like that .

Well after our weekend in Norwalk replacing everything in the ignition system, box, controller, coil, trigger pickup, trigger wheel, wires and plugs all of which we had with us and still did not fix our miss issue. The morale of the story is sometimes no how many parts you have with you sometimes it just isn't enough.

That's my drag week program now too. I've got a bunch of those cloth tool bags that Ryobi, DeWalt, and Milwaukee power tools come in that were getting thrown away where the trunk monkey works. I have one set up with spark plugs, spark plug gapping tools, spark plug socket, extension, and ratchet. Then another one has The timing light, the remote starter switch, and lash setting tools, and the socket and extension for the valve covers. One with only the tools for removing and installing the exhaust system plus a couple of extra collector gaskets and nuts and bolts, one with extra lifters Any wrench size that the hot rod does not have on any of its fasteners, does not get packed.

Harbor freight has a lot of nice boxes. I have several with carb parts, electrical parts, etc. rebuilt my carb this week and grabbed this out of my trailer.

Ditto on focused task boxes. Small-medium plastic ones work fine.
One for carb, which includes carb-specific tools
One for ignition & spark plugs & timing light & minor electrical stuff
One for chassis - snubbers, leaf clamps & such
Bigger top box will live in the Dually during race season, with a few additions out of my bottom box.
Any serious problems other than unanticipated breakage (thankfully rare for me) told me I wasn't on top of my stuff.
My philosophy, as taught to me: show up ready, organized & clean, or don't go.

I like the smaller tool box ideas. That makes sense
