They will break with 20 or more foot pounds. I know this from my own personal experience. I have no clue why I wanted more torque! Birdtracker

Hemi is 80 with ARP lube. No. I assume a wedge is the same torque.

the problem with put higher torque is it starts distorting cyl walls from what they were honed with torque plates

I thought it was 80 but wasn't sure. I'll go 85 ish.

I'm lifting the heads and just trying to get a little more clamp.
Thanks gents

Call ARP and ask them for both the six sided head nuts and the 12 sided nuts with ARP lube and with oil scope
Stock BB Mopar 7/16 course thread head bolts are 65 Ft. lbs. with oil on the threads and the bottom of the bolt heads twocents

I have been known to give them an extra 5....I have seen enough variables in torque wrenches to warrant that. on head gaskets I would rather be a smidge high than low.

Excellent point and worth considering while using a stock block. This last build i used 30wt oil and only went to 70lb and it was sealing NO PROBLEM with about 750 n/a. One thing to consider is that with both an aluminum block and heads they grow and additionally load the fastener.

I just opened a box of a new set for Indy aluminum heads. The instructions say 70 ft/lbs with their lube

When you make power like I do, even good parts are at there limit. I tryd to talk to Indy (Ken) about upgrading to 1/2 inch studs and he kept telling me I need to put one of there solid blocks in it. After enough of that I finally told him I have a solid blocks for my next combo but it ain't cast Indy [censored]. It's BAE lol. He was done after that, so I just put new rods and bearings in it with valve springs and same ole 440Source crank. Still one of the fastest 440-1 combos out there.

iagree although Trick Flows instructions also say 70 ft lbs, I remember seeing 80 in the ARP instructions, and I think I torqued my head studs to 85 ft lbs according to the torque wrench

Be cautioned on over torque. Saved and old arp main stud torque spec. ARP recommended main torque with there lube 85lbs. with oil 135lbs. shows' you the difference when using different lubes. aluminum block and heads do grow and get tight. Played a lot with it on main bores and rod big end bores. can make noticeable change in round dimensions.
unfortunately over pulling on aluminum threads over torque can be bad on the threaded holes in block both ends.

some fast 440-1 headed engines.

Has anyone ever had water seepage into a cylinder using the INDY 70 foot pound spec and cometic gaskets on SR heads?
Would going to the 80 or 85 foot pound torque mentioned here help stop it?
Thanks!

Sorry Bud, I misread your title ... mine are head BOLTS - not studs.

Absolutely NOT tsk twocents
I use the manufacturers specs, with the lube they recommend up work twocents
Mopar FSM call for two different torque specs, the lower one is with clean surfaces and no lube, the second higher one is with oil on the threads scope
