Picked up a super nice 09 journey R/T for dirt cheap was supposed to have a bad engine but engine ran perfect after a jump start, cluster was in the seat so miles was unknown but it was so nice I figured it had to be low miles, popped it back in when I got home threw in a new battery and it all works perfect, drives very nice except a little vibration I think is the front CV joint on the rear driveshaft so I ordered up a joint but the next day the battery is stone dead, charged it back up runs perfect all day so I figured I left something on but the next day the battery is dead again so I start testing for amp draw and it was like 4 amps and dropped down to about 2 with the radio fuse out and still kills the battery and only the IOD fuse made any other difference but it seems the radio is getting power to stay on even when it shouldn't because I can hear a faint humm from it when the car is off even for a long time so I unplugged it and battery still dies so I am thinking whatever module sends power to radio is staying on and it self is getting power from the IOD fuse but I can't find what is getting it that power on a crappy wiring diagram, I think it is the hands free module but I can't even find where it is located??? I HATE electronics!!! Mechanical stuff is so easy to understand compared to this electronic crap! Does anyone know where the hands free module is located on an 09 journey? Also the radio does not work and the screen don't work in the top center of the dash. Also I don't know if this could cause it but the TV for the rear seats is gone from the car.

Have a buddy that has a 09 Journey and had a short in a module that would drain the battery . . . will ask him which module . . he had to send it to someone to get "rebuilt" as NLA from Mopar . . .

So he said it was the TIPM module . . . sent it here :

https://xemodex.ca/ca/

Check them out . . . good luck . . . its' always gonna be the damn electronics that "kill" the newer cars for us . . .

Cheers,

Mark

Well I finally fingered it out, the stupid GPS/Radio screen was doing it, the screen was dead and it is tied in to the radio, when I finally unplugged that little bass tird it no longer sucked the battery down. I figured without the radio fuse or the radio plugged in the stupid thing would not have access to power but it evidently does, since then I plugged in the radio and the fuse and it no longer kills the battery as long as I keep that sceen unplugged so I am gonna get a delete plate from a plane jane journey and a base model radio that don't need that screen.

If you had the proper scanner you'd have found that drain. easy The tool I use for my BMW will tell what module is drawing current.

You need the proper tools, you don't use a hammer to install a nut.

Not all scanners will do that on all makes/models. I have access to GMs GDS system and it will do CAN bus draw diag. I also have access to Snap-Ons latest Zues scanner...it does not do CAN bus draw diag(on all makes/models). CAN bus stuff was still relatively new in 09 so the access and diag was limited.

I have an older mac mentor good thru 2006 and a autel maxysis good thru their latest update. I don't know if the autel will do what they are talking about cuz I never heard of that befor just now. I love the autel because I can program VIN, keys, tire sizes... in mopar vehicles, I don't do a ton of other brands with it. These so called engineers need to shove all these modules up their you know whats, it is just plain stupid to have all this garbage on these cars who really cares if you can listen to the radio for 30 seconds after you remove the key? Why do the door locks need to kick on when you go over 25 MPH, do zombies start jumping in cars when you go over 25 MPH?

I bought this thing and the seller told me it had a bad engine (it actually runs silky smooth and just perfect), I would have rather put an engine in it than go thru all that with the electrical. I'm so burned out with the electronics in these new cars I am looking actively for a new career for the first time in my life and just do some mechanical stuff as a hobby on the side.

Go into medical research, Dave,
you would stand out from the herd.

Just learned yesterday that the first “Furin Cleavage Site” was spliced into an already deadly virus,
where else but,
Montana !

Yup that's the job for me! I am positive that has nothing to do with computers...
