Pushrod clearance in the block & head is affected by PR diameter (duh) but also how much oscillating movement is present at the PR top with the short (PR side) rocker arm lever. If you're going to open the holes, the new shape must of course allow the larger diameter, but a greater sweep at the RA is not a larger hole diameter, but a " stadium" shape: a circle @ correct OD, expanded with parallel sides.

I should add mine runs -1 heads and 7/16" push rods. Doug Straight or tapered?

I should add mine runs -1 heads and 7/16" push rods. Doug Straight or tapered? They are tapered at both ends. But not far enough that it alters block clearance. I did have to gring just a little on the heads for the intakes. It uses offset intake cups in the lifters as well. Doug

I like and use Manton pushrods for all my builds due to them making them when I order them. They don't have any shelf pushrods, all custom made when ordered. The series 5 are my choice for race roller cam motors, I've seen 8 HP gain above 5000 RPM with no other changes than swapping out a set of Smith Bros,. 3/8x.120 wall to an Identical set of Mantons Ph.# 951-245-6565 I am a dealer for them and I can save you a little money on them, no a bunch, sorry They will drop ship them directly to you if you order them from me: Cab

Run as large(diamter) a pushrod as your wallet can afford. It does not matter in weight to the valvetrain but flex IS an issue. How much depends on spring pressure and cam ramps. Of course as you go up in diameter clearance becomes more necessary.

Doug, I think you and I are both running the Comp Cams 7/16" pushrods. 0.165" wall thickness. This is where the taper is (both ends). The shape is the same. But mine are steel color, not black. There is no name on them. Just length, diametre, and wall thickness numbers that look like yours. I was told they are Trend. I purchased them used with the heads and T&D paired rockers when I built the car in 2012. Doug
