I'm swapping the old moroso pan on the roadster for a dragster style moroso style pan with swinging pickup as part of my winter updates and have a couple questions I'm hoping the experts can help with.

I can't find much on moroso's website and this pan was a swap meet find.

How many quarts of oil do these oil pans hold?

It's 4.5" deep at the back and 3.5" deep at the front.

There is no dipstick provision which makes me nervous but I guess if it's got pressure it's fine 🤣.

Also any tips for the single external pickup appreciated as well.

This fancy stuff is foreign to me.

Thank You!!!

Pretty shallow pan, might have been made for a dry sump or auxillary oil supply tank. The one pictured has a much deeper sump (7" at the front) and probably good for 7-8 quarts.

So I filled it with water and it holds 6qts to the built in windage tray or 7 qts if I use the gasket molded windage tray.

I ran 6 qts in the old one so we should be okay.

I wanted the shorter pan for ground clearance as the old one was just a couple inches off the ground.

I'll probably use my old windage tray and stick with 7 qts.

I've ground notches on the sides of the oil pan rails on more than one aluminum oil pan to clear the engine oil dip stick up wrench scope Grind a little at a time until it fits okay, don't go hog wild on it tsk I've also had to shorten, cut the end off the dipsticks so they don't hit the bottom of the oil pans scope shruggy I do fill the pans up with the oil amount I want to run and then mark that as the new full mark, you can drain one quart out and mark that as the new add mark also work scope
if you're going to run that shallow oil pan I would add a 3 quart Accusump to your engine twocents

Good tip on the dipstick.

Ran 6-7 qts in the other pan.

An accusump - Even if it holds the same 6-7 qts of oil?

The swinging pickup is 3/16 off the bottom of the pan.

This is just junk bracket 383.

Those other pans must hold like 10 or 12 qts for fast hemi stuff.

Use an Accusump. Hard on the brakes is where you will need it.

Use an oil pressure warning light. Most guys use a 30 switch. Some use a 15.

Don't use a dipstick if you are using any kind of pan evap or vacuum pump system. Some guys will keep the dipstick tube intact, but pull the stick and put a vacuum cap on the tube.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I run a similar oil pan with a dual line pick up on the street and race with no issues. Mine is a 7 qt pan, 3 in the Accusump and 1 in the filter so, a 11 qt system all together. No dipstick provision on mine either. I don't run a dipstick tube due to a vac pump.

Mine runs a dipstick with the vacuum pump. Late model Jeep stick and yube (cut down) with an O-ring at the top that seals it.

After some delicate grinding and filing by hand the dipstick fits again. Hopefully the new gaskets come so I can finish up.

That hemi looks like a serious ripper.

Thanks!

I like your approach. Some of that 7 qts will be "upstairs" in the motor/heads when running.

iagree It is interesting to fill the pan up with the amount of oil you want to run and mark the dipstick and then run the new motor for a while, 5+ minutes or more and then shut it off and let sit for a while and then look at your dipstick and see how much lower it reads now scope work twocents
I'm thinking near a half a quart or a little more gets store in the oil passages and in the nooks and crevasse in the motor and heads scope
