Hi All. I just seen a thread on F/Book where two Super Stockers came together after an "Accusump failure" occurred at the finish line (John Dourlet and Justin Jerome). I can't see an accusump failing other than the pipe falling off which I wouldn't consider to be an accusump failure anyway Anyone know anything more specific? I'm interested to know as I've ran one for years and would like a heads up on what to check.

I know nothing, but if the AS performed as advertised, but was unable to keep the pressure up (AS capacity too small for the engine to run WOT for 5 seconds)...? How did they determine the size of the discharge hose & fittings going back to the engine? Too small = not really helping?

I did a quick search and found a post in an aviation forum of a failure after landing (thankfully). Looking at the photos posted Accusump Failure and the comments in the thread, I think it may have been caused by where the mounting clamps are located, and the plumbing after the control valve. Unsupported valve, vibration may have fatigued the threaded connection in the tube. Not sure of the failure mode in the Super Stock crash. Canton has a Do's and Don'ts section on their website. I have seen three electric valve failures with an accumsump over the years one was mine and thankfully happened in the lanes. All lost the seals in the solenoid..

How did they determine the size of the discharge hose & fittings going back to the engine? Too small = not really helping? Something broke on the Accusump and oiled the track causing the crash.

Interested as I and most everyone else I deal with has one on their car. Moroso typically, with the electric valve.
Plumbing failure most likely, The unit itself is pretty robust. Unless someone screwed up the snap ring or the groove servicing the thing.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Both cars pretty much a write off. Nice Mopars, one a 1 of 55 Hemi Belvedere.
Checking around to see what failed.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I have had a A.S. on my car for many years with an electric solenoid. Maybe it's time to swap it out for a new one.

Just for the record they were Stock Eliminator cars not Super Stock .. the RO23 car was running A/SA and the Duster was running E/SA ... still a shame two nice cars ! ....on a positive note a C/SA 69 Cuda went on to Win Stock Eliminator ! according to Classracer.com the owner of the Duster has already purchased another Duster to replace the one that was wrecked .. if you go back a few months on Classracer .com under Stock and Super / Stock then under driver interviews Bobby Fazio did an episode and interview on Justin Jerome and his Duster .. Cool interview ! I've always liked the small block " A ' body Stockers !

It would take some work but looking at the pics in the other post I wouldn’t write them as totaled,I would start hunting a parts for the RO that qtr outer will be hard to find, some pulling and prying on the rest of it. Doug

There is no plastic line on an Accusump. Braided steel line feeds the engine. Either a fitting broke. The snap ring for the piston retainer popped out. Or the solenoid broke. Doug

I read somewhere else that the end plates have been known to "pop off". Not saying that's what happened in this case but has anyone else heard of that ? I've never seen one taken apart nor can I find any pics / exploded diagrams. Are they rebuildable by manufacturer only ? Canton offers a rebuild service.

My end caps are threaded on. I don't see them just popping off.

Plumbing failure most likely, The unit itself is pretty robust. Unless someone screwed up the snap ring or the groove servicing the thing. I have a moroso 3 quart with electric valve that I have ran on my cars literally for 23 years without a problem. The way the moroso electric valve is built, I don't see how it could ever fail to cause a leak unless the bolts that connect the 2 halves worked loose. I cant see how anyone could ever screw up those snap rings or grooves either. But where there's a will, there's a way I guess....

I don't know the brand or if anyone besides Accusump manufactures these, but something went terribly wrong with this one. Thankfully the pilot was landing when this occurred..Could have been real bad!

Wow, looks like where the clamp was mounted near the end and at the thinnest portion near threads all the vibration from the plane wore through the housing body.
