Every maybe 2-3 miles on the hiway my 3.9 dakota will sputter, or surge, like a misfire, just once, but very noticable. Just started doing this a week or two ago, drove 25 miles earlier and it didnt do it once, made the 5 minute drive to work and I felt it happen twice.
Just just a new cap and rotor on few months ago. Any ideas? Plugs and wires?
Thanks.
Carol: "Wow! He's really fast, isn't he?!"
John: "Yeah... but he's stupid."

Unpluging it will increase idle speed. Now you really confused the ECU. I suppose it goes into limp mode. Did it throw a CEL? If you can, scan for codes.

CEL hasnt come on. Plugs and wires look fine, but Ive been planning on changing them anyway...

Have you noticed anything else like: - gauge cluster not working - interior electrical not working (radio) Has this happened in wet/damp/humid weather? There is a common problem with a splice in the wiring harness under the washer fluid bottle on the 92-95 Daks. It happened on my 94 and appeared randomly as you mentioned. Eventually it died in the driveway. If you want more details, look here: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/441350/2 (sorry the pics are blurry)
