Couldn't just have Dzus on a old school racecar. Got to have pins. But the plates with rivets just don't do the carbon hood justice. My friend Dave (home made hood and scoop) and Ted ( blocking and paint) worked to hard to make a race piece look way better than it should. So my friend Paul whipped up some nice aluminum plates that keep most of the pin up and away keeping scratches to a minimum. Couldnt have built this car without my buddies. Problem is the hood curves where the front pins come thru. The solution? Bend them in the press. Then stick sandpaper to the original hood and sand in the contour. They are thin and hard to hold. Made a tool out of a bolt. Took a litle while but now the fit is really good. They will be held on with some ultra stick two faced tape. Guess I better spring for some new pins. Yes I'm a detail nut. Doug

Doug, how many pins do you have total? 4 total. Works good though over the years it's bent the pins a bit. Not the body portion but the retainer. Amazing how much uplift the scoop develops. This thing is not very aerodynamic. Doug

No Doug, you are not nuts. You simply understand that the devil is in the details. Thank goodness we have craftsmen like you to push the envelope on what a HotRod can be. I aspire to develop my skills to levels I can’t currently attain, and posts like this are inspiring. Hopefully someday I can impress myself with my own work. Until then, thanks for showing the way.

Nice! The paint looks great too. What color is that? It's GM Sunburst Orange code 802. The credit for the beautiful body and paint goes to my longtime friend Ted Smith. He's done more than a few out of his garage. They always turn out like this. Doug

I feel the same as I didn't want dzus visible on my hood either. I run the factory hood pin and latch assembly. However, my hood is still bolt on.
