Is there a way to clean old alternator (1968) case back to looking like original looked?

I used a blast cabinet that had wore out glass media and it turned out perfect no material removed. Not sure you can run into that situation but that's how I did mine.

Using baking soda instead of glass beads or sand is real gentle.

Years ago there was some discussion about "oxalic acid" for cleaning up parts. I bought some and did a test with some scrap cast aluminum coil spring spacers. The acid is marketed as "wood bleach" and I found it at a local hardware store. I heated water up to boiling, poured it into a plastic container in the garage and added the wood bleach crystals. I soaked one of the spacers in the solution and it removed all of the white rust. I scrubbed it a few times with a tooth brush and it did a good job of cleaning the aluminum. I took a comparison picture to show how it worked but I'm not finding it at the moment.

Fine sand and say no to high pressure.

Balotini ah 175-325 glass beads that are worn out, baking soda, walnut shells that are worn out, fresh sharp shells dig in a little. The real question is how do you duplicate that gold flash finish it had, you know that look you know when you see it but can't explain it. Here is a NOS 67 alternator back, you can see it was plated, or dipped then machined.

Bonderite/Alodine1201, ( same thing), Google it to find a supplier and directions. I've found dipping for 2 to 3 mins. will get you what you want.

Ithink the 1001 is a clear coating.

Alodine comes in clear or yellow. You need the yellow.
