Hey folks. Working on my 70 challenger. On the SE, when installing the rear window fiberglass plug, I see no evidence of sealer between the plug and body. Correct? Also, originally....was there a a thin layer of jute material over the plug, to bring the level up flush with the body? I hate seeing SE cars with the rear window plug looking like it sunk in a quarter inch.

I just took mine apart, mine didn't have anything to seal the plug either, had some type of foil tape over the screws and jute type material around the plug to take up the gap. it seemed odd to me it didnt have anything to seal the plug but thats what i found.

That’s what I found in the one I had. The tape is the same kind I use on hvac ductwork.

Here’s how I did mine, used the foil tape as previously mentioned and used some closed cell foam to bring the surface back up before putting the new top down.

Let us know how the top looks. seems like the indents under over the screw openings would show thru the top with out anything, My car originally had some type of white material over the plug.

Well, if you just bondoed it in, would the bondo crack? Seems to me like there would definitely be some filler used to smooth it all out. I figure there will be movement between the filler plug & the original roof & twolip panel.

I noticed on the grave yard cars top you can see the outline of the plug under the vinyl.

The original plug was put in really shabby since Ma Mopar figured the vinyl top would keep the plug and filler padding dry. I am not sure if bondo would be a good choice under the top because it would be a pain to fix it later if it ever needed it.

If you wanted a small window without a vinyl cover you could try it but I would think the metal/plastic plug and bondo would crack do to the uneven expansion when in the summer heat or winter cold.

It would be interesting to see a small window without the vinyl top. I think it would be subtle and not the first thing noticed but unique too.

That felt material is 1/8" thick on my 70 Challenger SE. I assume nobody makes this pad.
