Just got the 512 fired up broke cam in. Then tore valve train off and installed inner springs. Does it sound like it has a slight miss or is that sound i hear normal??
Sounds like someone beating on the car starter with the ignition key, is the motor running? I would pull all the spark plugs now and see how black they are and see if they have oil on them How old was the gas you use to break-in the cam? Did you degree the cam or install it with the timing gear dots align? Try another sound tests standing at the back of the car so we can hear the exhaust better

You can't hear a miss with open headers and a big cam. If you think a cylinder is weak then use a temp gun on the header tubes. Another test is to use a timing light on each cylinder to verify each wire has a good spark.

I def have no exhaust on the car. Its open headers. Gas was new idk if its just me or if its the lopey ass cam. Its a fairly large cam heres the specs below11.1 comp

This is the largest cam and build ive ever done. So like i said it could all be in my head what i think i am hearing is as its idleing there seems like a quick short hesitation in the rythem. From time to time.

Firing order 18436572. Notice that 2 cylinders on each bank fire consecutively and the rest alternate from bank to bank. Sometimes at idle you can hear or feel that and think it is a miss. In other words - left right right left right left left right.
How fast is that idling? Might be a bit slow for that size cam.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

That is exactly what I'd expect that cam to sound like at idle with open headers. Doesn't sound like it has a lot of compression, a high compression engine will sound a little crisper. What is your timing at idle? With that cam you'll want at least 20 degrees at idle, maybe 25. If the timing is slow and the idle speed is slow then the sounds starts to get softer or rounder. Do you have a vacuum gauge? You should have at least 12 inches with that cam in a 512. If you don't then you need to add timing, add speed and check for leaks.
I think its fine. I just never had one lope that hard before everything seems fine its snappy and revs up very fast. Ill get another video and post it, at least you guys get to hear the beast anyhow. Its in a 69 superbee with 18 spline 4spd dana 60. Not factory equip. Was origionally 383 auto dark blue white stripe.

It’s idling way too low. Should be around 1200 when it’s at operating temp.
I doubt it will have over 10” of vacuum....... but I do agree it should have a very short ignition curve with as much initial timing as it will tolerate without causing a hot start problem.

Ive always had good luck pinning my distributer and setting it where the car runs the smoothest. Thats what i have done here as well. Seems okay. On this one. Im going to start it again today make a few adjustments. Ill post another video. As for suspension its just setting somewhat close until i take it to the alighnment shop. Wheels are just on therr to push it around.haha. i have alot of work to do yet.

Sounds cool to me, although in a big motor like that it does sound quite lopey there and with such a mild cam, needs a bit of tweaking perhaps, but thats exactly how my all iron 440 sounded with the CC 290@.050 .650/.650 sft in it, ticked over@900rpm.

My 12.5:1 511 warmed up idles at 1400 in park with 9" vacuum, in drive at 1100 with 7" vacuum. My timing is 29* initial and 36* all in at 2500rpm. My cam is a SFL with 270/275@50 on 110. Runs great.
