Everything AAR#2 said, but I'd add a couple things: Ibuprofen is horrible for you, although it works well for inflammation. I'm not saying "don't use it" but I prefer to use natural anti-inflammatories such as curcumin. Start taking good calcium and collagen to maintain your bone and joint health. Most importantly, once your pain goes away, do an internet search for "core strengthening exercises" and get your core muscles strengthened up. If you don't do something now, your situation will only get worse.

look into a entry level Yoga class at your local YMCA. it really helps, gets and keeps you in the routine of stretching
Thank you Kiddart

Sciatica is something that comes and goes. It seems to come on with certain weather, sitting for a long time, standing for a long time, lifting stuff, etc, etc.. I used to take Ibuprofin but can't now because of other medication but I can take Tylenol and it works well. I only take it if I'm going to be driving for extended periods. Otherwise I just deal with it - stretching, changing positions, whining, etc. I go to a back quack once a month but I don't think that does much good.

"Ibuprofen is horrible for you" It does help quite a bit for me but I know it can ruin your kidneys if you take too much of it or for too long. I'm several weeks into this and hoping it just goes away. Is steroid injection and option anyone has tried? Mike Steroid injections work for some, not for me, and why I ended up under a knife. Yes ibufrofen can be bad with regular usage so I do everything I can to stay off them, but sometimes it gets you over a bad flair up. I should have mentioned the core exercises as mentioned above, and of course if you are carrying extra weight losing it will help too. Bottom line is it’s work, and never completely in the clear it seems for those that experience it Edited to send a shout out to the gal that has helped keep me from the operating room, a good deep tissue massage therapist can help as well.

I got it, nothing helps like hanging upside down on my perversion table for 5 minutes.

[quote=70satelliteguy]From what I understand since my symptoms are just a nerve pain from my hip to my knee JUST when seated, I probably just have to keep stretching the Piliformis muscle in my butt to alleviate my pain. Fine at all other times.
I had that , lucky a guy at work had just gone thru knee surgery and he had this little cooler / pump thing .. put ice in it and has a bag you strap on the part that hurts .. it would make the pain co away

hr dave tell us more about hanging on your board. how long have you been using one? did your dr recommend it? im 6ft 3 and 240 lbs, what is the weight limit? I have one. Use it a lot when I can. My Doctor didn't recommend it but when I mentioned it he said it wouldn't hurt and could help. For me it was a big help. My board is good for 350 lbs and wasn't too expensive. Approx $200 a few years back. It needs to be adjustable for your height and I prefer the locking pin as opposed to the strap to limit rotation. Start small at 15 to 20 degrees and move up over time to where you think it is comfortable. I can do full 90 degree inversion and drink a bottle of water while playing games on my cell phone. The wife thinks I am weird. I think hangin upside down drinking at keg parties was good training. Who says all those crazy days were wasted time. After you hang for a while and are ready to get up put the board at a level position and lay there for a while. It kinda lets your body relax with the stretch. I will often get off the board and take a nap to keep the load off my back for a bit and it helps the effect last longer. I can't do sit ups because of the pressure it puts on my spine but I can do crunches while hanging upside down.

Mostly a problem when I drive for more than 1/2 hour. How long did yours last. They say it usually goes away after 6-8 weeks on it's own but stretching exercies help. Thank's Mike I can't drive either of my trucks for more than an 1/2 hour BUT I can drive my Stealth which has lumbar supports for 6 to 8 hours with no problem. If you can't drive something with better support get a lumbar pad. I have 2 and use one at the office on occasion and one on trips when I can't use my car. It may help.

I can't do sit ups because of the pressure it puts on my spine but I can do crunches while hanging upside down. Almost the exact same story right down to my wife making fun of me for those things he mentioned here butt I got mine at salvation army for $50 and my chiropractor recommended it and the doctor said to not to... Mine is a "teeters hang up" the only thing I can find about weight limit is a sticker that says "do not use setting A for users over 220#" Also there is nothing to exactly limit the rotation on mine, my weight and the geometry of it keeps it from going quite straight up and down unless I use my arms on the floor to "walk" myself all the way upside down and even then just past center it will hit a bar, you don't really need to go all the way vertical upside down. I am surprised how often I see them at yard sales and such for cheap, they must not work for everyone butt I love mine.
