Anyone on here doing this? Mostly strip some street use. I am considering going hydraulic roller, a friend suggested checking into this. Parts availability is going to be an issue. 511 rb, indy ez.

It can be done but my suggestion would just have a low lash solid ground for your combination.

Yes this can be done but there are a few things that you need to make sure of before proceeding.
1. Make sure your cam is billet not cast, if Cast, don't do it. 2. Like INIMD8 said, tighten up the lash to almost nothing, .004 - .005 (I just spoke to Lunati last week and that is what they told me to do)

If you have the cam manufacture and lobe numbers it would be easier to make a determination. Certain lobe profiles will easily run either/or, Some hydraulic profiles are to aggressive to run on solid lifters.

I'm aware of the lash and having to experiment with it.

If you have aluminum heads, keep in mind your lash will open up some, as much as 5 or 6 thou, from 70 degrees to maybe 160? That would make things a bit tricky.

Way too much hassle In my experience. I use to own the 68 Valiant that Tim Werner built. AndyF built the engine and it had solid lifters on a hydraulic roller. The lash needed to be right at about zero cold so it would open up to .006 to .008 hot. I was concerned about hanging a valve open, so I set them at about .001 to .0015 cold. The valvetrain was noisy. It just didn't sound happy. If I had kept that car, I would have swapped in a solid roller.
If you're building the engine, just put a tight lash solid roller in it.
'67 is an abbreviation of 1967 67' is an abbreviation of 67 feet They are not interchangeable.

Yes I did it before with a Comp Cam in a SB Mopar. The hyd roller lifters wouldn't fit in the block so we switched to solid roller lifters. Comp told us to tighten the lash to almost zero and let the aluminum heads grow some lash. It worked just fine on the dyno and for racing.

I agree, I wouldn't build an engine that way for a daily driver or even a regular driver. Tim's car was about 95% race car.

This is 95% race car an occasional cruise night car. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just use a solid roller for that application.

I was considering a hydraulic street roller set up when a friend suggested I look into it. It's not set in stone. With the lack of parts availability, whats the wait period looking like on a custom ground roller [solid]? I was just looking at whats available on the shelves at this point. Also my valve springs are set up for sft cam Comp 928s. That was the thought behind a hydraulic roller.. A 511ci in an A body isn't going to take much to get it moving.

Were the old early gentle roller cams of the past a different core? Ive still some reed cast core solid roller cams and used early early crane rollers on them.
Were they a different material or hardened?

I don’t believe any BBM roller cams are ground on cast cores. Some SB yes...... BBM, no. I’d love to see a pic of a BBM roller from Comp that’s on a cast core.

I'm considering the XR 286 HR-10 Comp, their website states billet steel. I'm aware of the lash and having to experiment with it. Running that cam in my 505" rb (0.030" over 440 with 4.25" stroke) Running with Stealth heads, 10.3:1 compression, and 1.6:1 HS Rockers. It is a fairly tame cam (running EFI), makes good torque, but I limit peak RPM to 6,000 RPM. Using ISKY 8005A valve springs that are just a bit stiffer than the Comp 925-16 valve springs. Retainers (for the Isky springs) are Comp 748-16 Video was when it had a RPM Intake and 750 cfm carb, TTI 1-7/8" headers, and 2.5" TTI X-pipe exhaust with the TTI supplied Super Turbo Mufflers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ui4GCHn_7o
