I've used Driven break in oil and also used Valvoline VR-1 w/ Comp Cams break-in additive successfully. Both were 440 Mopars. That's the only two flat tappet motors I've built in the last 10 years.

I picked Driven for breakin. There is a possibility of having a problem when using additives and some oils. As I recall a certain level of friction needs to be present for best ring seal results. That must be balanced with requirements for successful flat tappet cam breakin. So I stick with good breakin oil and no additives to avoid possible issues.

Driven and Torco. I prefer the Torco but it’s more expensive.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Last FT 440 was around 2013, I used Chevron Delo400 SAE 30, with a pint of CD2 street legal oil boost additive.
The CD2 additive is no longer readily available but has good numbers in analysis. I bought a bunch of it on closeout. Zinc: 4898 ppm (4700) Phosphorus: 4921 ppm (4300) Calcium: 4279 ppm (7800) Moly: 0 ppm (0) Vis @100C: 29.5 cSt (28)

Brad Penn oil is what I've used and never had a issue.

If you insist on single weight (non-"W") get it as warm as possible first.

Are you guys breaking in your cams in with the springs as installed or are you removing the inner springs?
