I bought a Honda years ago that has done the job with ease. It’s a single stage, has controls you reach from behind, starts easily. they come in electric start but mine has been easy enough with a pull and cut a hundred bucks off to go that way. It pulls along without any fuss. I’ve cleared 2400 square feet of driveway with it for years and haven’t had any regrets.
I want my fair share

i like my 9hp craftsman 2 stage 30" cut blower with heated hand grips and easy steer. for 1 year i used to have a OLD 10hp 30" cut yard machine blower. it was rusty and looked like hell but that thing was a total beast. it would go thru any amount of snow Wisconsin threw at me and laugh. the best part was it easily cut thru the pile left by the snow plows at the end of the driveway. the problem was it was a total beast. it was like trying to trail ride a bucking bronco so i sold it for good $$$ when i picked up my craftsman. my craftsman blower can't throw snow as far or go as fast as the yardmachine. but it's like driving a luxury car on a nice summer day compared to driving a convertible with the top down in a severe thunderstorm.

This is my experience with the wife and powered equipment. Went to buy a lawnmower. She said she wanted a self-propelled. Bought one. She said she couldn't pull start it. Got electric start. Said she didn't want to rake grass, bought a bagger....... and I really enjoy running it.

I've looked at the electric "snow shovels" but not sure how well they work. Also not sure if the battery powered versions would do the job without 2-4 batteries. Maybe I'm beating my head against a wall but wondering if any of you have encountered something similar and were able to come up with a solution? Even Input on your experiences with the shovels/ blowers etc. would be helpful keeping in mind something small, easy to maneuver and hopefully light My parents live in NH, get plenty of snow, and they have what I would call a small electric shovel for the walkway, patio, back deck, etc. - I used it once when I visited them - it worked pretty darned well. - It doesn't engulf more than maybe 4-6" of snow with each pass, but you just sort of skim it across the top in layers. - It was a plug-in with extension cord, so no idea how battery operated would do. - Not a ton of torque, so you go slow so the motor maintains momentum. - I was in average snow, neither very loose nor very wet. It worked OK. Cheers, - Art

TJP, I was in our locally owned Toro/Stihl dealership this morning and they still have quite a few models of Toro on the floor. Interestingly enough there was a woman talking to a salesman and he mentioned a couple things like the ease of turning a particular model & demonstrated how to adjust the chute from behind the blower while in motion. The model he was showing ran $700, maybe $800, which included pull and electric start. He also offered to take the unit outside and let the woman give it a test run. No snow here in Des Moines, but at least he was working with her. Clive Power Equipment Thank you, I've looked at the Toro's, and in that price range I'm going to say it was likely an upgraded version of what we had. And yes they turn easy for a man on dry pavement.

Good news for me and thanks to all that have responded, She said after 40 years , I know you are going to buy another snowblower. If I don't like it, than you can use it . Then she followed up with, just don't buy me a beast, I'm just a little person. COOL!! So now the hunt is on, heated grips, easy chute adjustment, easy steer (some call it power steering ?) and self propelled. Love to go for a hydrostat but way too many $$. With the above requirements it's looking like it will have to be a 2 stage. Any further input is appreciated

those old 2 stroke Toro sidewalk blowers [200S model or something like that ] really got a beating from my brother and i over the years. super dependable, and as fast as you could shove 'em, but hogging a full face of 12" or so, you had to take it "kind of" easy. the original one the old man bought back in 75 or so, lasted through a bunch of guide flaps, a couple of drum bearings, zipties, mechanic's wire, and "repaired" handle using "chrome" angle iron. when it went away, it had a couple of "parts blowers" go with it, but still ran GREAT ! one thing it did NOT like, was automatic transmission coolant lines. the drum and flaps ate them up until they wound around the drum a couple of times before locking everything up, then it tool an hour or so to unwind the mess.
