What is the difference between the 383-13 and the 572-13 INDY heads? Can you still get the 383-13? Anyone here ever use them? Thanks, Sean I have never heard of the 383-13 head. INDY does not show anything in their catalog of them either?

I don’t think those have been available for about 20 years.
The only place I’ve heard of them being used was on that magazine build Ken Lazzeri did that went into that orange superbee(Chapman??).
I also saw them listed on a very early Indy price sheet.

I had a set a long time ago. Barton ported them. The rocker pedestals were machined off for the Jessel rocker mounting system. They were mostly designed for the smaller bore. Thats were the 572 versions stepped in.

I wonder if these are your old heads then and just worked their way further south? I was told they were on a truck puller last go around. They have water passages. They could be. I sold the engine to a guy and he said he was going to street race it for money. He was putting it in some sort of A-Body.They were in a 4x4 tube frame mud racing chassis. Not that it helps but here is some pics before the guy picked it up.

How cool is that! I'll look for any distinguishing similarities. Did you have any flow #'s? I did have but not sure if I can find them. Richard O'mally built it for me the first time. The heads were done by Ray Barton. Back in 2003 Muscle Motors freshened it up and Mike said they were about the nicest set he ad seen. Block was o-ringed and run with SCE copper head gaskets. Like I said they had the expensive Jessel rocker system, external oiling. How much of the engine did you get?

My moparmate had an ex engine-masters 470ci with 572-13 heads. They were designed for the 4.500 bore but were fitted to a low-deck 400, 4.375 bore with a 470ci stroker-crank. I assume they made some for the 4.250 bore 383 cube engines and moved the valves inwards to miss the bores? Good for 1000hp 'they say' my mates 470 cube made 700 N/A...

The exhaust ports have more of an SR look to them as opposed to a -1.

That seems kind of weird and odd. A pump gas 470 can make 700 hp with Trick Flow 240 heads.
