The resto red cap has died. I see turbo start went out of business years ago and the name was bought by another group several years back. The resto batteries came back a couple or maybe three years ago. Anybody have experience with the latest ones?

Mine must be pretty old. Seller said it was in car 5.5 years ago when he got it.

I bought one many years ago, and didnt get a full 2 years out of it .

I'll never buy another one.

IMO save your money and buy a modern Mopar group 27 and a couple tanks of gas

Get a new,AGM or cut your old one open gut it and put one inside.

I’m assuming you’d need a much smaller group size battery to fit in the old shell. How’s that play with the demand level required?

These links will give you some ideas. I did order a new one from Battery Central Mall this year. They are made to order by Jim's Battery. They are constructed of a shell and another agm battery inside. Hope this will last as long as my old Turbostart (11yrs). As far as longevity, I think it depends on how well you maintain it.

Unlike some that have cut the bottom out. I cut the top off to be used as a lid. This also left the whole case intact.
I treadled the post and screwed the post in but may just bolt a cable to them and then onto the new battery inside.
I also epoxied some plastic angle {like angle iron} to hold the top in place but the factory hole down would work. I kinda go past what is needed at times.
I polished the rubber case as seen in the picture with Yellow Caps. And have 2 sets of caps in case I want the 24 to look like a 27 I kinda go past what is needed at times.
I did not use the top post cables used bolts and cables with eyelets on both sides so they did not protrude as much.

I like the way that turned out 340SIX. What sort of saw did you use to cut the top off and get such a clean cut? Any other hints? My yellow cap could use an upgrade.

Free hand hack saw Fine blade. I cut one side threw the plastic, flipped over and cut each side till all 4 were done.

Then cut center out threw the plates.
Once the top was off I pulled the lead plates out, and then cut the plastic that devides them out with an body saw (air)

I’ve got way too much on my plate, though I love the work guys.

Ordered an odyssey group 34 today from autozone. Figure having local and road options for warranty will be a plus, get to keep the resto battery for 18 bucks. Will try to keep it juiced up for show use, maybe down the road I can build a replica like shown here. Best part is I’m cutting about 14 pounds off the nose of the car. It won’t have that correct look I have going underhood, but it’s better than most any other batteries I’ve seen and I’ve wanted to try one for years. Also the soonest I could get a resto bat is 10/18 and I really need to keep driving to sort bugs out. Trying to figure up what I need to concentrate on this winter.

For now I’ll be back in business Wednesday and it’s on to the next problem. Have a goal of all switches working on this car.

I like how you did this but have some questions:
What does the under side of the top look like before you put those posts in there? I think I would rather tap the bottom of the original posts and use double eyelet cables with bolts?

Jim's Battery in Youngstown, Ohio is the only game in town right now. That's who everyone else is getting them from. He uses a small AGM battery inside a repro shell. My last one lasted 8 years. Depends how you take care of it. He recommends fully charging it every 2 months with 10-12 amp charger - not a trickle charger.

Here you go. I have 3 washers to bring the washers even with where the plate was on the post originally.
I left 100 percent of the post and just cut the plate off so I would have more thread. That way the bolts could be in deeper to hold better
Or I can use bolts with eyelets with the cables shown. The washers are adding strength to the soft lead post as well on the side of the post as well as sitting flat on top of the case top
