Doesn’t seem there’s many LA Strokers long or short blocks out there now. They all are magnums for obvious availability reasons.

Thoughts on the magnum strokers getting swapped in place of a LA360.
Engine mounts, bolting to my 904, headers and things I need to consider if I go with a magnum stronger.
Planning and design insights appreciated.

Pretty sure a Magnum is a bolt-in as long as you get the correct flywheel/flex plate. The blocks have the bosses on them for LA mounts.

Depends on whether you use a long block or short block. Magnum heads have a different intake bolt arrangement and a different pattern at the ends for accessories. If it's a stroker it should be internally balanced so any neutral balance flex plate/flywheel and harmonic balancer should work.

One additional thing I came across but this was on my '89 Diplomat AHB and that was a minor modification on my accessories bracket on the right side head. One of the bosses at front of Magnum head wouldn't allow the LA alternator bracket fit quite right and had to be modified just slightly and welded but wasn't a problem for mechanic who installed it.

I was going from 318 to 360 so I had internal to external balance to consider too, along with different engine mount on right side (IIRC right side) or use of spacers.

Facts are stubborn things.

The magnum is based off the LA and the block is pretty much identical. Most of the changes where in the heads/intake accessory mounting. If you have either block use it and get a forged crank stroker kit. There are more parts for the LA then there is for the magnum. If you go magnum you can get heads that have the LA style intake design and use any LA intake.

No mechanical fuel pump on the magnum engine if that matters.

Thx all.
Internally balanced. A little jigging for Rt side motor mount probably and a modified alternator bracket.
Existing headers bolt up to magnum heads from LA?
👍🏻

If you use edelbrock magnum heads use edelbrock magnum header gaskets. The edelbrock gasket fits the port perfect, other brands are too big, I have found no others that fit right and it can cause a problem on the 2 middle ports. Iron heads are no problem. The alternator just needs a longer bolt and spacer and an LA timing cover. Late w-2 heads used the magnum front bolt setup and it works on them.
