I have a stock A727 powered by a stock LA360 2bbl...

I'm having trouble finding a low stall converter for my application.

It's an extended cargo van and I plan on using it to pull some cars on a dolly every now and then so a little medium to heavy towing... Maybe also weighed down with tools and provisions.

I'm pretty much going to keep the motor stock. I was thinking maybe I'll get a new carb and some headers later on but not much of a difference.

I am currently rebuilding my 727 and the converter it had is a Pro King cr25l from AutoZone. I had the tranny rebuilt at a shop a couple of years ago and the converter failed after about 10000 miles. I took it back to the same shop and they rebuilt it again using the Pro King cr25l converter.
Long story short I installed it myself and had some issues with alignment and reverse so I'm rebuilding it myself and now need help choosing a converter.

I've spent over $3000 now on this tranny so I don't want to spend much more but I also don't want the cheap one from auto zone.

What's a good converter with a stall around 1775-2075 that'll work for my application?

I found a B&M 10416 Tork Master 2000 that's around $250 and that'll require a different flex plate. The Tork Master has a stall speed of 1800-2100... Are these good converters?

will this work for my application and are there any similar converters out there that might work better for around the same price?

Thanks for the help!

Fortunately you are in a stall range where the price is affordable. I know many transmission shops use a company called Dayco.

Keep old mopars alive.

I used a Pro King from Advanced when I put in my 518, no complaints 4 years later.

Dayco or Dacco? Because I couldn't find anything under the name Dayco...

Advanced doesn't carry Pro King, at least not anymore? I searched on their website and all I get for my vehicle are $500 Hayes converters. I'm not trying to spend more than $300 for a converter!
I'm sure the Pro King will be fine but... If I can spend 100 - 200 more then for something way better I'd rather do that...

Anyone familiar with B&M converters?
I'm really leaning towards the Tork Master 2000...

So here are my options so far:

Pro King cr25l. $89

B&M 10416 Tork Master 2000. $260 plus $100 flex plate

Torco 764HD $177

After looking into it I've found that Torco is actually a really good company and make a quality converter... If this converter bolts to the stock flex plate I think it'll be the one...

There's a note under the tc remain converter in the autozone website that says Dacco isn't supplying converters anymore.

For a 360-2 van pulling heavy loads I would go to a 12" converter...less slippage, less heat buildup.

The Dacco has the correct external weight and uses the stock factory flexplate but you'll have change from the 11" flexplate.

I have had very good success with TCI converters. They have stock stall speeds and good selection in the $375-$400 range for HP converters though so I don't know if that's more than you're looking at

Hmmm, didn't know I could go with a bigger converter...
Had I known I would've expanded my search criteria...

I actually just ordered the Torco 764HD with a stall speed of 1800-2100 for $195 shipped! They have a good reputation and for the price I think it was a good choice.

If I had a little more patience I would've probably searched around a bit more but...

I appreciate the info!

Yea that's a little more then I'd like to spend...

I went with the Torcco 764HD with stall of 1800-2100 and all for just $200...

Thanks for the suggestion!

Does that converter have the necessary external balance weights?

I wanted that Tork master for my 727 behind the slant6 I'm building for my D150 until I found out that my current 727 is a lock up version, nobody makes/builds a converter for a lockup besides "stock replacement".

The Mopar Reman line of converters are some of the best out there if they have what you need. When it comes to lockup they are the best,
As close to new as you can get.

You would be surprised what some of the aftermarket converters don’t get when they are built.

Some get nothing more than cut open, cleaned, inspected and put back together.

Is there a website to check options, or have to call dealership?

Good point Transman I forgot about lockup, although that year might be electronic and easily disconnected? And I did not know that about the quality of theirs. up

A dealer with a good parts counter guy will be your best bet. I’ll see if I can scare up some part numbers for you.
What application are you looking for ?

I really hope so! It says fully balanced in the description... No picture of the front cover...

What do you mean?
If it doesn't have the external weight I'll be able to buy the B&M flex plate to resolve that issue?
