I bought a set of Ross pistons from a FB seller that arrived a while back. I opened the box to find a few concerns that I would like more experienced builders to review. About 4 of the pistons show what appears to be light corrosion of the aluminum which can be felt if you drag your fingernail over the areas. It seems to clean up easy enough with a brillow pad but before I move any further with these I would like your input... here is a link to the part number of the pistons:

I would not run a piston that has been bead blasted, especially in the ring groves

I dont think it has been bead blasted.... the surface is very smooth.

If the pistons are usable for a hot street motor, what would be the best method to remove the corrosion or oxidation?

Id send them goofy heavy things back to hot street 1978. I think youd do better even with a current set of hypers vs them. Corrosion/detonation? on that top.... meh.... beater dirt track all day long, id not spend the $200 balance money on those for street use.

Whats the compression height on those? Dont look setup for much of a cam or are they deep in the hole?

Compression height of 2.067, supposed to produce 10:1 Compression with 84 cc head according to Ross Pistons. https://www.rosspistons.com/product...op-4-350-bore-3-750-stroke-3-50cc-82008/ Same part part number on the box.

That top look mighty porous. Ive had some that had minor signs of detonation I sent out and got the tops coated and never had a issue.

Them look like older pistons for some reason, maybe the dull finish.

Id be on the fence to use them as they are but opinions vary.

Try contacting Chief Aircraft supplies in Oregon for some aluminum corrosion eater, if they are not open try another good aircraft repair parts store on the internet. Aircraft Spruce in SO CA is another good one scope
I owned and flew a small aircraft for 15 yrs in SO CA and used both of those companies for parts, Chief was cheaper due to Oregon not having any state sales tax even with the shipping up scope
I wish I could remember the brand name I used but the label fell off and I can't remember what I had for dinner Saturday night now whiney shruggy

Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)
