i need to remove the bracket that holds the idle solenoid to the intake manifold, how do you get it off cleanly? any help greatly appreciated.

Are you trying to remove the bracket that is spot welded to the solenoid body?

very easy, drill bit or you could buy a new one .myself i would just get another new one out of my file cabinet if i needed it.i believe i gave $6.00 ea. for the 3 i bought at Mid city Chrysler Plymouth in Jax. Fla. never needed them.i gave one to a good friend a few yrs ago.

Why would you want to remove just the bracket?

i found a nos one without the bracket.
so i want to remove my old unworking bracket and transfer it over to the new one.

I would take the working parts out of a donor solenoid and install them in the correct part number housing for your car instead of taking a bracket off the original. One way or the other you are having to disassemble both, might as well swap the inner working parts.

Does the solenoid have a DR# stamped into it? Never seen one that way without a bracket.

Gm used many applications that used a clamp type bracket that went over the barrel, same internals though.
I have bought several NOS solenoids without the bracket to repair the non working mopar type with bracket, pretty easy swap.
The 1969 GTO ram air solenoid is the same one that is used for the A-12.

Bruce, same DR#? Ok, yes I can see that happening. As far as what to do in his case, I think it would be pretty difficult to drill and replace his bracket spot welds (with convincingly accurate new welds) without dissassembling the unit first, I would recomend what the other poster suggested, remove the guts from both, replate the original, and put the new parts in the old case

I think the '69 GTO solenoid power spade comes out beneath the bracket, not to the right side. The top pic is a good reference if you are looking for solenoids.

Does your original solenoid have any markings?
Does the new solenoid have any markings?

The GM solenoid with the correct terminal location was used first on the 6cyl Overhead Cam Firebird.
