I'm sticking together an interim 400 for my Plymouth, my initial thought was to keep it simple and run the MP .528 solid. Did a little reading and decided to try out a Howard's solid with their EDM lifters. This one: https://www.howardscams.com/mechani...383-440-2500-5800-howards-cams-721262-08Ordered it through Competition Products on 2-2 and was told 5 weeks to grind. Emailed for a status last night and was told Howard's doesn't have a core to grind it on. "They'll get them" but no idea when. I suppose I could go back to the initial .528 MP plan, but I was hoping keep the duration similar but bump the lift to take advantage of my heads flow potential (B1-BS). Looking for input on alternatives. Combo: '65 Sport Fury street/strip. Fresh stock rebuild 400 short block, Brodix B1-BS heads, 6 Bbl intake/carbs, 1 3/4 to 3" headers full 2 1/2" exhaust, Street Hemi 2800 convertor, 28" tire, 323 gears swapping to 3.91/4.10 once it's all back together. Compression will be 9.2ish with 65cc combustion chambers and steel shims.

Wow sorry for your luck with the material shortage. I ordered my Howard's cam through Competition Products and it was an enjoyable experience. That grind sounds very close the the XTQ series Comp Cams sells. I had one very similar to that Howard's grind and I really liked it. I would get with Dwayne (fast68plymouth) and see if they still make that grind. Gus

Maybe something similar on a shelf

This one looks like the exact same exhaust lobe, with the next step down intake lobe: http://www.hughesengines.com/Index/...mxhdCBUYXBwZXQsIFNvbGlk&partid=30278Strange that Howard's and Hughes valve spring recommendations are different.

Maybe Dwayne will poke his head in here, if not I'll message him.

that's a lot of cam for a small engine in a big car with an automatic transmission. i saw seat timing rated at .020" (if i'm looking at the correct lobe specs). hope you understand what that means. I didn't see any .020" numbers. It's a 246 @ .050 solid cam, so it'll compare to a hydraulic at 236-238 @ .050, nothing out of the ordinary for a street/strip car?

Did some more digging last night and had forgotten that dude from Hughes is such a boner. Prefer not to give a guy like that my $$.
Guess I'll just go back to my original thought of the MP .528, or maybe call up Racer Brown and see if they have any cam cores. I was always intrigued by that RB solid AndyF ran in his cam test.
Anybody got a .528 solid collecting dust?

I think all cam cores are in short supply. I'm freshening up a Chevy motor for a friend and waiting on a cam from Isky...they keep saying 3 weeks.

I don't know about the business today, but back when I was involved more heavily in such things Camshaft Machine Company./CMC and Engine Power Components/EPC both in West Michigan used to make the majority of flat tappet cores for domestic brands and other cam companies....not just Purple Shafts, and they both also did quite a bit of cam grinding for many different sources and brands. If you've ever noticed "CWC" cast into a cam, that is camshaft machine's tooling. Lacking resources, for years I assumed it meant "chrysler windsor canada" and was told later on that was incorrect.
Knowing the way the industry is headed, it wouldn't surprise me if those are the next companies on some big ugly conglamerate's buy-up list. Already happened to crane, comp, edelbrock, etc etc.

Contact Bullet or Ultra Dyne cams Cab that was on the list until another poster said they were out of cores too. I've always wanted to run some of UD Harold's lobes.

Zippy, kinda makes you want to hang on to any cam core you can get in case regrinds start to become a necessity. On that note I wonder what Delta or Oregon Camshaft have to offer at this point...

Good point!! It also makes me regret scrapping a couple that i have tossed over the last 10 years or so....oops....
