If the MC is off the car, turn it upside down and rub it around on some sandpaper on a dead-flat surface. It'll be easy to see if it's not flat, and I'd suspect the area at the bolt threads may be raised. Look closely at the bolt area on the cap as well, verify that the lid seals before the bolt bottoms out. Even decades ago, I had one that would seep, but I can't swear that it was OEM. its still on the car. And I dont have anything flat to ck the top of the casting avail I will switch lids this week and plan on taking the car out Saturday for the day . maybe I'll get lucky

OK - does the area around the threads appear raised ? A straightedge and feeler gauges is another way to check. If that area's raised enough, might even be a witness on the seal. I'm assuming the bolt is proper length, not bottoming out. None, I pulled the lid and sit it on the tool box top. Has a slight rock to it but not hate full. Switched it one another lid and gasket form a reman unit I have on the shelf . Time will tell if it fixes it
