I saw this TCI kit to adapt a 727 (torqueflite) Dacron filter to a PG racing transmission.
Seems like a good idea, finer filter & double sided.
But what is done with the smaller, square hole on the PG valve body?
This pic is of my PG filter with extension for the deep pan.

I think some of the older pg had a rear pump and they may have just continued to use those filters. Just a guess, My pg uses the same setup as yours.

if there is no rear pump [therefor no pump suction] would it really matter ?
and yes, some of the older PG's did indeed have a rear pump, but i do not know what the year range for those were. but somehow i "think" they were the iron case and early aluminum case versions.

I was wondering if that square hole in the valve body should be blocked/covered somehow.
Has anyone used this type of kit for using the torqueflite Dacron filter in a racing PG? What do the instructions say about the square hole?

My Ultra Glide from Mikes transmission came with a adapter to use the 727 filter, I have change it several times since then and have had no issues with the tranny or filters up
No instructions as I didn't buy the tranny from him, it was in the car when I got it.
Call him and ask about those questions at 661-723-0081 or who ever built your glide scope

Jim I used that kit on all the power glides I built. Never had a problem. If I remember correctly the adapter takes care of that hole.

There is no way the adapter in the TCI kit pictured covers that square hole, look at both pictures.
It is nice to know the kit has no problems. up Just wondering if that square hole is left open, something else is in the kit or instructions.
Can anyone confirm, as somebody implied, the square hole is not used in PG's without the rear pump?
Is covering it going to cause problems or does it need to be open to something? (standard filter or open to space).

Found this info on YellowBullet.com

Quote

the smaller hole is a return from the pressure regulator...
.
I have a deep TCI pan with the factory style PG filter and extension. I switched over to the Chrysler filter and the new adapter only bolted to the larger port on the valve body. The small square port on the valve body was left open so I figured it was a return or bypass of some kind. I wanted to make sure before I filled it up with fluid.

This makes me think the square hole should NOT be blocked/covered.
If it discharges fluid from the regulator, that might keep out any debris from wearing clutches, etc.

Jim, I just reviewed Carl Munroe’s PG book. From the diagrams in the book it looks like the small hole is for suction return and needs to be open. The circuit runs from the sump through the pump, regulator valve and then splits. One side goes to the rest of the system and the other is the suction return which goes to the small hole. Hope this helps. Sorry but haven’t yet figured out how to post pictures on this site from my IPhone.

Thanks for the info.
I did a quick page through of Carl's book before posting, but didn't study all the circuit descriptions.
I was hoping it would have a picture pointing to that square opening and say what it was for. Especially in the Race Prep section where this filter conversion could be mentioned.

I have my PG out for winter inspection, and was considering this filter conversion.
I think I will keep the PG screen filter (and deep pan extension). Since I will inspect pan every year.
I will keep all the dimensions I measured so I can make that adapter in the future, if I ever decide to do it.
This is my preliminary design, No guarantees !

Not much to add other than I went from the stock style PG filter with the extension for the deep pan to the same high flow Mopar filter with adapter extension you are talking about. You are right, that smaller square port is left uncovered. I changed nothing else at the time and it worked fine. This was with a stock GM valve body with a brake.
