I am having a hard time measure the angle of the rear end. Can I use the flange on the side as in photo?
Thanks

727 Trans Ladder Bar set up
I just moved the front hole up and need to adjust the pinion angle down
Can I shorten the bottoms ? or do I need to extend the top?

Can I shorten the bottoms ? or do I need to extend the top? If it was correct before you moved the front up then just adjust the bars to put the pinion back at the same angle. Shouldn't require anything more than a tape measure to do that since you had a fixed location to work from.

Can I shorten the bottoms ? or do I need to extend the top? I'm not a ladder bar guy so please pardon my ignorance. Won't either of these adjustments raise the yoke and increase the pinion angle?

Lengthen the link in the ladder bar will roll the housing around and point the pinion lower. (angle from positive to negative)
To measure the pinion angle, rotate the pinion to get the yoke to where the u joint caps/U bolts are at 3 and 9 o'clock and lay your angle finder on the front flat of the yoke beside the U-bolt. Or lay the angle finder on the heads of the cover bolts on either side of the cover. Subtract to 90* difference.
Not going to get into how to figure what it should be today, except to say I avoid positive rear u-joint operating angle at all costs which goes against some of the other methods. On a big tire, backhalf, stock front ride height car, you have to compromise sometimes.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.
