Need new siding for the house. Have some ratty aluminum on there now. Thinking about the LP Smartside. Anyone have experiences with this stuff, good or bad. It seems pricey compared to vinyl but has a better look.
Thanks!
It works and looks good, make sure you add the price to caulk it all with polyurethane, and 2 coats of good paint like SW superpaint. You will need to keep edges painted, so it needs constant edge paint attention the first few years, that is the price you pay for the better look. I like to hit all cut edges with oil base primer. Stay away from some of the shake look alike, and ornamental smartside, as it is masonite, they sell one that is wax treated strand constuction, but$$$ and special order. I have some almost 20 year old smart side, keep it caulked and the edges painted and it will last. Cement may be a good choice, but looks funny, and sometimes has paint adhesion problems. There is no perfect choice. The ratty or new aluminum is hard to beat for something that lasts, maybe pull it, seal up what is under it, house wrap, and put aluminum back on.
