My project 82 D150 is starting to go back together. I'm wondering if I need to have this A833 that came in the truck gone through before re-installation. Just seeing the pictures, can anyone comfortably say that it can be run as is? There is bits of rtv inside the case and sealing the tailshaft so I assume someone has been inside already. My main worry is the the countershaft and if it needs to be bushed to prevent failure during street driving.

I do not plan on racing this truck just yet so it will have a 360 magnum with the 3:55 8.25 and street tires for now. I have been reading through Jamie's book to learn more about the trans but still not sure on taking it apart myself. Brewers is only a few hours away if a rebuild is required.

Good to hear. Thanks for the offer but if/when this one lets go, it will most likely be replaced with something stronger. The 4.10 dana is almost complete and a gen III Hemi is in the future plans.

Is there any excess play in the countershaft cluster? Is the clearance ok? As long as the countershaft has not enlarged the holes and the thrust washers are not worn, you are probably ok.

From looking at the pictures, it looks like you have the wrong brass in there. The brass is from a '69 and back, but the synchronizer drum looks like that from a '70 and up transmission?

Freshen it up while it's out. It's a good little project and pretty simple. Get a good kit from Brewers and a book.

Doesn't appear to be any play that I would call excessive. I wasn't planning on disassembling if it is not necessary. Everything visible through the sidecover looks alright to my untrained eyes. Another member that is local offered to give it a closer look. Thank you for the input.

That is probably what I will end up doing. The plan was to just drive this truck but with two dead cylinders and floorpans taking six months to ship, it has snowballed into the "while it's apart" deals. I do have the book. Thanks.
