I quit using the braided SS hose, I'd wrap it with electrical tape, cut it with a grinder, I still ended up bleeding to death, The black is a lot easier, but I never had luck with summit hose.

Summit stuff sucks. Putting their stuff together is like herding cats. And I've done a lot of braided hoses over the years. Just seems like the sizing is off on all of it. I have some here that the guy brought for me to use. We recreated the McAmis video, including the language, after I got stuck for the tenth time. Aeroquip goes together like butter in comparison.
3/4" wide packing tape with the strands in it is what you want to use.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I have had similar problems with the Summit brand of their SS covered AN hoses, both Teflon and neopreme lined. I now use Fragola brand and love it I use 3 or 4 inch wide duct tape and wrap the hose as tight as I can get it and then use a small 4 inch cut off wheel in my Harbor freight Chicago brand air dremel

yes wrapping it with tape. the braided wants to push back of the line when you push the fitting on. Some fittings only work with certain hose Earls fittings only work with Earl's hose. That's probably your problem

i have used Jegs and Summit hose, both are inconsistent in sizing and quality. THE fittings seem to be good, the hose not so much. After this whole Covid19 deal and what China has done to my racing this season, im about to never buy anything made in China again, no matter what the cost ! ! Is it worth it now?? with NO racing ? and not mention other things !
sorry for the rant
I use masking tape and cut it with a hacksaw, works for me

What are you using as a assembly lube to get the hose to seat all the way on the fittings? I use the Fragola brand of their black #12 AN hose and fittings and could not get the hose to slide all the way up to the plastic cup (even using heat on the hose before and during the installation ) on the end of the fittings

Basically a large cable cutter Use this, and forget about tape, grinding, cutting, cleaning whatever. This will cut the hose clean as a lazer, and it has the added benefit of slightly reducing the end from the radial compression. making it easy to put the fittings on. literally, one second and the cleanest cut you can get. Even works on double braid.

I wrap tightly with a couple layers of either 200mph duct tape or strapping tape (the yellow-ish translucent stuff With fibers inside), and use a cut off wheel. For me the exact kind of tape I use makes a difference. I learned to Use The strapping tape from aeroquip since they used to deliver their hose with that kind of tape on it where it had been cut.
I tried Fragola for -12 in this external pickup Deal I’ve been messing with, so far I like the anodizing better than the aeroquip or jegs brands I worked with Previously. It seems a little more durable.

I use the technique shown on the Earl's web site how-to videos. A block of brass, a big, sharp brick chisel and a 5 lbs maul and I get clean, crisp cuts every time. Watch and be amazed. I was. https://www.anplumbing.com/hose_cutting

Nothing fancy. I do mark my hose with a white paint stick on the outside so I know I have it bottomed out and the hose didn’t push out any. I love working with this stuff and I’m over 7 years tank to carb with alcohol use will h zero issues.
