There are lots of other differences between engine dyno and chassis dyno numbers. I'd say that engine would easily make 600 hp on an engine dyno when outfitted with dyno headers. The drivetrain absorbs some power but so does the exhaust system, the cooling system, alternator, extra heat, etc. The car should be able to run low 11's if he can get it to hook. This was done on a Mustang Dyno, they are in the 19 to 22% drive train loss, the Dyno Jet is in the 13 to 15 % loss, from my experience. No matter what it will be a awesome street strip Car

15% driveline loss to the wheels makes it 578 bhp.
Very nice! 15% even with a manual transmission??? Gus Rick said there was more to it than adding a percentage on the number. But I'm not too hung up on it. He said it's good for 600+, I'm happy with it, and there will be 100 differing opinions on what the crank number should be. Bottom line, I feel I reached my goal and it puts a smile on my face every time I lay into the throttle.

On a side note, I ran it on 90 octane pure gas. He said he would have liked to see some 93, even with the corn. My plan was to get a can of higher octane and make another pull with a mix in it, but I ran myself up against the wall getting ready to load up and go. So that never happened. He said it may have seen 8-10 more with Q-16 in it, but probably not enough to lose any sleep over it.

My 434" small block was broke in and tuned on a engine dyno using Crate 98 race gas. After all the tuning we pumped the fuel cell and emptied the carb bowls and poured in a can of pump 93. After bringing it up to temperature it made 30 more hp than the 98 did. I thought it was a fluke or something went wrong with the computer so we cooled it down and made another pull, again 30 more hp. Your results back up the old adage of using the lowest octane needed to not ping, it will make more heat quicker pushing down on the pistons harder

A 512 with 240 heads and a decent solid flat tappet shouldn't have any trouble making between 600 and 625 on the dyno. I've helped out with a bunch of those projects since the 240 heads came out and they make great power as long as the have a good cam and a good intake to work with the heads. You'll have a lot of fun banging gears around town with that car. Just don't get too crazy with it, those old cars aren't so good sometimes at slowing down or going around corners so be careful.

My crazy days are behind me. With the big'n'littles, it's not going to be trying to carve corners anytime soon. lol. It'll be fun. Cruising, racing, improving. I bought the car in '13 and it's finally getting the to point I can leave the drivetrain alone(aside from tuning more with a wide band). I have the front suspension yet to rebuild, which should happen in the next couple weeks. Then its on to the body and interior, even though everyone that sees the car tells me to leave the "patina" alone.

One dyno operator I talked to said some combos that can run on pump 93, will sometimes make more power than race gas. He didn't say why, but one thought I had was the oxygenation of the 10% ethanol (need to jet for it). My 10.3CR engine didn't vary more than 1-2 hp going from the dyno shop 112 race gas to my 93 pump gas I brought with we. We used a oxygen sensor in the exhaust to tune my carb. So in my case, the fuel was not the limiting factor (likely my unported 452 iron heads, LOL).

My favorite part is street tuning then when ya hit the track, you are better than half way there w/a bit of fine tuning and nice time slips. With a manual trans, shock settings and tire pressures are your friend..........

Nice Roadrunner ! Sounds like a nice combo that should easily hit your goal. Good luck , Ron Thanks Ron. Hopefully it will be as reliable and badass as your Plymouth.
