With the bit of extra time some of have these days, I've been looking into EFI. With the various EFI fuel tank kits available out there, Spectra, Tanks,Inc, Holley and Aeromotive, how good are the fuel level sending units in these? I searched a bit and didn't find much. I know the repro units for the stock fuel tanks get a bad wrap. Am I going to have fuel level issues buying into an EFI fuel tank kit? I've been known to run the fuel level a bit low, especially at the end of the Chicago cruising season.

I have read that Rick's custom tanks only uses the tube style sending units. Their stuff looks to be top notch. Probably a bit more than I need. Tanks Inc seems to have the same sending unit. While I was hoping to find a complete kit. I suppose I could run with the Tank's inc tank and tube sending unit then find a fuel pump from some place else. Many on Moparts have the Jake Fab fuel puck and a pump below that. He doesn't seem to be in business anymore as the website is gone.

The fuel level sender is on the left, you can see it is nothing like the oem.

I run a surge tank set-up with a stock tank and a modified factory style pick-up/sending unit. The benefit of this system is that it will run hard even on a road course without introducing any air into the high pressure side of the system even when the tank is down to the last gallon or two.
The low pressure side circulates fuel at near 0 psi from the tank to the surge tank and back into the tank, and the high pressure side circulates fuel from the surge tank through the fuel rails, through the pressure regulator and back into the surge tank. It is very effective especially if you run below half a tank and are doing some spirited driving.

"no separate return line is required because this module returns excess fuel right inside the tank!" Wonder if there might be any vapor lock or fuel heating issues ? At 65 PSI i wouldn't think vapor lock would be an issue but the heated fuel sitting in the engine bay might cause some other unknown problems ? Any new Dodge Hemi doesn't have a return line, at least that I am aware of. They PWM the fuel pump to provide adequate pressure at the rail, but the fuel is not in constant circulation. That said, my car has an external regulator which is very close to the tank and works very similarly. I haven't had any issues.

If it works this looks like a nice direct replacement setup for those of us who have already gone through our factory fuel system with new tank, fuel lines, etc. It looks like Holley is building these for a variety of cars. Anyone tried one yet?

Doubtful, because with EFI fuel is always moving, a carb doesn't have fuel continuously moving due to the float setup.

Doubtful, because with EFI fuel is always moving, a carb doesn't have fuel continuously moving due to the float setup. The setup he was referring to has the regulator in the fuel tank. Therefore the only fuel really "moving" while stopped is what is being bypassed in the tank and what is at the injector. Not much between the tank and the injector.

1969RR how do you like that Holley Sniper and fuel tank set up in your Challenger? Where are you running the vent line to?

1969RR how do you like that Holley Sniper and fuel tank set up in your Challenger? Where are you running the vent line to? Hello Plum72, I really like the way the system went in. Tank was easy bolt-in. Used 6AN feed and return to the tank. For the vent, I ran the hose and alumn fuel line up thru the trunk fill tube grommet. I just drilled a hole to fit the alumn line. Then ran the alumn line up next to the fill tube and attached the roll-over valve right next to the top of the fill tube. Easy to do. You're supposed to have the roll-over valve as high in the system as possible. Let me know if I can help you in any way. Take care, Jeff

Plenty of these systems on the road, you don't hear about issues with an in tank regulator setup causes vapor lock or fuel heating issues. Lot's of other things to worry about, don't think this is on that list.

BUMP
I too am curious if anyone has used the Holley 12-318 Pump/Sending Unit assembly. I just read that the Sniper requires a return line but this new assembly does not have a return line built in. Can someone confirm if this unit would work without the return with the Sniper?
Thanks
